I am really a newbie to this whole bike stuff and I'd really appreciate any help that I can get. For a year I have been riding Giant Sedona LX that I got new. I've put more than 3000 miles on the thing riding mostly for fitness on paved and hard-packed dirt trails. Well, the things is giving up un me. I've changed the cassette and the chain and it appears that my rear hub was damaged at the level of the smallest cog (looks like it was filed off by the darn thing). so I got my self a set of new wheels for 100$ (Mavic x618 with deore LX hubs). The probelm now is that my crank/bottom bracket assemblly (some no-name stuff) seems to be giving up as it is producing more and more annoying noise. I could spring up another 100 $ and get a decent crank and bottom bracket, but my local shop guys tell me that I should just go and get my self a bike built for 1200 - 1500 $. The probelm is that I don't have that money right now and I really am addicted to my bike. What I would like to know if anyone here would be able to tell me if the frame of my current bike is worth keeping by upgrading component by component (as this is something I can afford) as they break or should I wait 1.5-2 years and get a new bike as suggested and hope that this thing will carry me through.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!!! 😕

Any suggestion would be appreciated!!! 😕I think it is worth the upgrade.... as long as things like brakes, shifters, derailers, and frame are still OK.
It ,ay only take a new Bottom Bracket to care for the current problem. I would think about trying that step alone unless the cranks and chain rings are also problems. -
I agree with daveornee about the upgrade. It sounds like the guys in your local bikeshop are in a win/win situation: you either buy a new crankset and bottom bracket (good win), or a new bike (better win).
I'd go to a *different* bike shop and have them *lube* the bottom bracket (unless you have a repair stand and tools and stuff and can do this yourself). That would probably do the trick for quite a while. A good mechanic once told me that people will spend ungodly amounts of money to get rid of an annoying noise. And believe me, I understand... I don't like my ride making any funny noises either.
Good luck!

Keep fixing it, especially if you can do it yourself. If you can't do it yourself, keep that bike and use it to learn how to do it yourself. I'd keep any bike until the frame gives out or until you decide you just don't like it any more.
