A MUM who died suddenly on her first holiday abroad was
stripped of her organs without her family being told.
Spanish pathologists removed Francine Dunphy's heart
and kidneys after she collapsed at her hotel in the
resort of Salou.
But her family only found out when they asked for a second
autopsy after her body was returned to Britain.
Spanish law allows organs to be removed without consent -
and 49-year-old Francine's still have not been returned to
her family.
Daughter Sarah, 29, said: "It's disgusting. I have had to
cremate part of my mother's body and start a campaign to get
the rest of her returned. I want my mum's organs back -
surely I have the right to that."
Chef Francine, of Hawkinge, Kent, was on holiday with her
daughter, Sarah's boyfriend Carl Reeves, 22, and children
Louise, 13, and Liam, 10.
Sarah tried in vain to revive her when she was taken ill
with suspected heart trouble.
Francine's body was sent home eight days later and her
family wanted an autopsy to establish the exact cause of
death.
Francine's artist husband Brent, 59, who was not on the
trip, said: "What the Spanish have done is disrespectful
and abusive."
Tory leader Michael Howard has taken up the case.
A Foreign office spokesman said: "We try to have removed
organs repatriated with the bodies but ultimately it is up
to the Spanish."
