Awhile back I posted an email inquiring what the pros use to talk to each other and their SAG vehicles on rides. Several ignorant techno wannabes suggested bluetooth phones and other ridiculous and/or expensive and impractical solutions. Well I finally found what the pros are using. The company is called Alinco and they have credit-card two way radios with earbuds that start at $199. There are a ridiculous amount of accessories to boot. My buddies and I have a few on order and plan to start using them on the long Sunday morning rides to work the rest of the pack over.

Be aware that the frequencies utilized by these radios are HAM bands and a HAM license is required to operate them. It is not difficult or expensive to obtain a HAM license, but legal operators will be looking for illegal use and they make it their sport to catch you and get you nabbed by the FCC, which can impose steep fines.
If you travel to other countries, the HAM frequencies may also change and you may not be able to legally use the same radio even with a valid HAM license.
Also be aware that radios are not allowed in Masters class racing.
