  1. This place probably gets the this same thread every once in
a while, but my news provider doesn't have enough retention
for me to find olde threads. Anyway...

Havn't ridden a bike in years (last one got nicked) since I
was younger, anyway I've wanted to get back to it for a
while now. I'm mainly gonna be using the bike for fun and
for getting into shape as well as getting around town,
nothing really serious, mostly on-road, sometimes off road
when I get the chance. Ideally I'd like to spend £300 max.

I've done some research and found 3 bikes in my budget.

-Specialized Hardrock Sport 2004 - £300 This is the one I'm
probably going to end up getting. Should I go for this or
    the non-Sport version? (£250)

    -Kona Lana'I - £260

-Marin Bolinas Ridge - £340 Slightly over my budget but I
might be able to stretch to it. Is it worth it? I've read
some places that it has stability problems.

Which would people recommend, or are there any other
    alternatives for a similar price.

At your budget differences between bikes is limited, try a
few and go for the one that fits best. You could keep an eye
out for 'last-year model' deals but unless you can go and
try it for size, I'd stick to one that you know fits. BTW
All of the bikes you mention are proper 'mountain bikes' and
will hold up to some (limited) abuse, congrats for not
choosing a bicycle shaped toy. You might find some useful
stuff in the alt.mountain-bike FAQ: j-j-
    harris.net/bike/ambfaq.htm

Thanks for that, I'll check out the FAQ and try to find a
    shop that stocks bike mags...

    -Specialized Hardrock Sport 2004 - ?

Should be okay - the others I don't know.

Consider 2nd hand. There are allways many people buying a
bike they end up never using and also plenty of people
    upgrading over and over.

To get a overview it's an good idea to buy a few MTB
magazines or maybe contact a local club for guidance.

    Kind regards

To mail me write to iddqdATworldonline.dk (U know what 2 do)

More of these westocykler.dkwestocykler.dk would mean less cars
    and less polution.

  6. I just got the 2004 Hardrock Sport, in silver. Very sweet. Lifetime
warranty on the frame comes standard. It's still new, so I can a full
    review, but check mtbreview.com2004 hardtail

Good Luck, and let us know how you fare.

    cheers!
