Probably not - but it can be ignored. I block all cross-
posts, which sends them to the bottom of the list of
'read' posts where I don't see them until I tidy up and
delete them.

The better ISPs / news servers (not everyone uses their
ISP's news server) filter out spam like this. The messages
aren't actually links to pornography, they just purport to
be. The links go to .scr files, which are liable to be some
sort of spyware / adware / trojan / virus.

How do you do that then? Can't be done using Outlook express;-

Do what I do and take out a news only account with
Clara.co.uk. It costs me £10 a year for non-binary down-
loads, and Clara filter out spam at the news server. You can
in fact write your own filters and get rid of all of this
pornography. If you are using Agent try: from "\.is\>" drop
from "\.aesz\>" drop from "nurmuhammad\>" drop from
"primposta\.com" drop from "rhi\.hi\.is" drop from
"isholf\.is" drop from "marel\.is" drop from "eldhorn\.is"
drop from "123iran\.com" drop from "merlingnet\.com" drop
from "cfl.rr\.com" drop

You will need to modify them for Agent's use. Agent does
have a large and accurate filtering capacity that does work
well Everything within \ .....\ is a domain from which a
lot of the [censored] spam originates. The remainder are domains
from which I was getting a lot of daily spam. None now.
Using these filters with Clara I've reduced my spam intake
to just the occassional one a day. Sometimes none. But you
do ned to stay on top of it. As fast as I close one rathole
another opens.

If they contain .scr files, then the posting is probably
being done directly by a virus/trojan, with no human
intervention. There are several that do that. Personally I
kill anything over 600 lines anyway, plus anything cross

until/unless someone replied.

Turnpike is excellent for news and email.

Now to get rid of IE as a browser. (I'm just about to give
'Opera' a try. Anyone used it as a browser?)

It's OK but some stuff doesn't work properly in Opera.

And it just seems to have crashed my socket connection in
windows! I've unloaded Opera. I'll try once more.

I was a little slow taking the step but the improvements
(huge improvement in the address book, sorting lists of
email or listed newsgroups on any column etc.) made it well
worth while.

If you try it and really don't like it you can always
export the messages received since the upgrade, uninstall,
restore the old version from a backup and import the
exported messages.

Yes -I read lots of beta test reports on the support group,
read the instructions about backup, and hesitated. :-)

I have a problem with the stored links file. If I delete any
to reduce the size, it then denies me access until I reboot,
and reverts to the full file again next time I log in, so I
could do with a clean start on v 6.xx.

I have versions 4 and 5 on an old W95 m/c upstairs, which is
still usable, and my g/f is off to Spain for two weeks with
her family, so I might find time while she's away.

<Thinks> I believe I said that last time she went, and then
found it was too much of a freedom holiday to waste on
upgrades. ;-)

I've not seen any of them, so assume they were blocked. I
use individual.netindividual.netOpen ↗ who also pick up as near as
100% of genuine posts as makes no difference.
