You are to be commended on your Vietnam service. It was a noble war in the
best traditions of America. The Vietnam War, like the Korean War, was a part
of the Cold War and it was only the treasonous liberals here on the home
front that caused us to lose it. I mostly blame Walter Cronkite and the
liberal media for the way it turned out. Americans by and large as a result
of Vietnam no longer have any stomach for war. That is too bad because we
are still living in a dangerous world and wars will be with us forever
whether we want them or not.

Vietnam War. It is not important what wars anyone was involved in, but the
mere fact of making yourself available for whatever the nation requires
during the time of your service. That is what is important. Anyone with half
a brain knows this.

I wonder that you did not stay 20 years in the military in as much as you

Wars are always preceded by lots of "talk". Talk is as important as the
actual shooting and killing once the war is underway. That is why we have
civilians in charge of whether we go to war or not and not the military. The
military do not know how to think about matters of war and peace. They are
too closely connected with the necessary killing that they will have to do
in order to accomplish the aims of the nation. I only want the President and
the Congress to decide about war, not the generals and certainly not the
foot soldiers who will do all the dying. It may be that Kerry's experience
in Vietnam is actually a disqualification for high office. As a Senator he
has been a disaster for the military.

I had an epiphany (and recovered) about Ed Dolan. This man is a closet
liberal - even for Minnesota - and in overreacting to a list that he
found to be (in his opinion) arch conservative, he has buried himself
further and further into the closet.

Re-reading his posts in this light, I believe it is almost certain
that he actually opposes the war in Iraq, has never voted for a
Republican president, won't buy anything from Starbucks that doesn't
have foamy milk and is trying to decide between a vote for Kerry or a
write-in for Dean.

My only question to the list is as follows:

Is Ed Dolan, Closet Liberal, actually a Francophobe or Francophile?
I'm betting Francophile and collector of Edith Piaf records, but its

When I get angry it sharpens my focus and I can pierce to the heart of an

A bit of Edith Piaf goes a long ways I must admit. But these French salon
singers are the worst. Even the German salon singers are better.

I spent some time recently in Seattle, the home of Starbucks, and I was
shocked at how much some people are willing to pay for a cup of coffee. I
decided that Seattle and the entire West Coast was totally insane and that
those States ought to be sawed off the continent and be allowed to float off
into the Pacific Ocean never to be heard from again. Be thankful you live in
Maryland and not Washington (the State).

By if you want to get your head screwed on straight, you need to reside here
in the Heartland, otherwise known as the Upper Midwest. But Minnesota for
some inexplicable reason is liberal, so I would recommend Iowa or North
Dakota for your dip into reality. Everyone knows that both coasts of the
country are crazy, but the Heartland will always be here even after the
coastal areas have been flooded due to global warming.

Kindly old avuncular Walter Cronkite is one of the most nefarious
individuals who has ever lived in these United States. He was consistently
wrongheaded about Vietnam (and most everything else under the sun too) but
he blathered the whole country into thinking about it like how he did. The
only thing he ever does well is his hosting of the New Year's Concerts from
Vienna every January 1. That is all he should ever have been doing his
entire miserable life. I say death to Walter Cronkite!

I have a few free moments this afternoon, so I have decided to give your

I have lived in New York City and various other world centers in a former
life and I have never found these cosmopolitan centers worth the effort. I
grew up in a small town on the high prairie of southern Minnesota. The only

there.

I am quite familiar with the East Coast where you live. I believe in the
future it will be deemed a privilege to live in relatively un-populated
places like Minnesota and North Dakota. This is truly God's country. The
beauty of the countryside is on a human scale, but it is being ruined by
encroaching urbanization (power wind generators are sprouting up all over
the former pristine landscape). If I were a young person growing up today I
would want to live in maybe a place like the Canadian prairie provinces
like Saskatchewan or Alberta. In other words, the emptier the better!

I have stated previously for Mr. Tom and others on this newsgroup that I am
never lonely. Posting to this group is nothing but fun and games for me.
Unless you are unusually obtuse you would have noticed by now that I am like
a great white shark cruising these waters of ARBR looking for any and all
posts stinking of liberal rot. That is almost my only purpose in being here.

I believe it is much more fair to conclude that Mr. Tom is the lonely one,
not that it matters one way or another whether one is lonely or not. But it
is Mr. Tom who is constantly picking up on trivial posts and adding his two

almost every thread and saying absolutely nothing. Instead he is given to
making inane comments which must be a puzzle to any newbies here. But for

One other thing Mr. Tom does not realize is that anyone younger than him by
20 years or so will regard him as an old man. I can assure him that any baby
just coming into the world would regard Mr. Tom as positively ancient. But
who cares how old or how young anyone is. The one thing that can be said for
sure is that anyone older than you are has already achieved something which
you may never achieve. That is because Mr. Tom could be run over tomorrow by
a truck and thereby never reach my age. Therefore, by virtue of my age, I
have already achieve something that Mr. Tom may or may not achieve. I was
once his age; he has never yet been my age.

I have noticed in the course of my life that those who are overly concerned
with others being old and lonely mostly fear this eventuality for themselves
above all else. The secret to avoiding this, although I know it is
impossible for someone like Mr. Tom, is to never think about yourself. Your
mind should always be on other things, ideas or people - never on yourself.
It is simple to do this if you are an intellectual like me. Maybe not so
simple if you are a dunderhead like Mr. Tom.

But, like Zorba the Greek said, we all end up food for worms - so don't
sweat any of this. At least I don't. If you are over 40, the Grim Reaper has
already served notice on you whether you realize it or not.

There is no reason we should all be bored to death just because we are
looking in on a newsgroup. I don't know about anyone else, but I am
determined to have some fun here if it kills me.

There are plenty of ignoramuses in the world who do not know how to write a
simple sentence nor how to punctuate it either. However, this penchant for
not capitalizing proper names and the personal pronoun I is nothing but bad
manners. Just because we are using the Internet doesn't mean we have to be
slobs about everything. How you write is a direct reflection on your
intelligence and your manners.

The Canadians, like the Europeans and most other civilized nations, are
living off the largesse of the United States. Who do you suppose would keep
order and security in the world if not for the US - certainly not the
despicable UN. But the rest of the civilized world are like ungrateful
children. We in the US have gotten use to it, but it reflects poorly on
them.

The g.d. French are going to get their comeuppance sooner or later because
the Muslims are flooding that country and they are basically uncivilized.

The Muslims will have to be dealt with by the US. It is just a matter of
time until we have a showdown with Syria and Iran. I would be in favor of
dropping a few atom bombs on them myself, but that is because I am sick and
tired of fooling around with them. I believe in preemptive war and in
disproportionate response. You kill one of us - we kill thousands of you. It
is the kind of arithmetic that works every time.

work. It is a failed ideology like the communist and socialist ideologies
with which it has a certain family resemblance. It will be confined to the
dust bin of history and is something we will only read about in history
