I noticed yesterday that the police were out writing tickets to motorcyclists using the bike lane in Rathdowne. I have not seen this happen previously. Has anyone else seen this happening on other bike lanes leading into the city?
It might be nice if they have a go in Alexander Pde at the end on the Eastern Freeway in the morning. I am losing count of the number of motorcyclists that I rest on because they are in my lane! Good thing these guys are soft.

That is really interesting Kevin. I have rarely heard of this before. Could you tell me were the cops from the Bike Patrol or were they traffic cops (i.e. on motorbikes/in car)? What time of day was this?
I could also nominate a few other lanes for regular enforcement 🙂 Faraday St Carlton, Clarendon St East Melb after a footy match, Church St Richmond, Sawnston St Carlton, Royal Pde Parkville... just for starters!

Justin,
I came through at around 8:45am and about 40 metres before Victoria St the cops were booking motorcyclists, they were traffic police. I can't recall whether they were on motorcycles but there were no police cars around.
The funny thing is I reckon they have been there previously but I had not paid enough attention. I will keep you posted.
I reckon at the end of the day they have to do something about the lane usage (abuse) by motorcyclists. It [censored] me to have some dope pumping out fumes blocking the bike lane and being a general nuisance. As I said to one of them the other day, you buggers whinge like mad about the treatment you get from car drivers and you sit there blocking the bike lane making a nuisance of yourself. They get little sympathy form me and I own a motorcycle.
