There's a man in my home village whom I had best describe as a little
eccentric.

He is often seen riding stoker on a tandem modified by the addition of
hugely extended chopper style handlebars.

I have seen a tandem which was designed to be steered from the rear seat
via a rod linkage. It could be ridden from the rear seat with no-one on
the front. I think the front handlebars were fixed, but it's a long
time ago.

I think this may have been a tandem from the days when a gentleman should
allow lady to go first, but could not give control to the lady. With rear
handlebar steering he could control the bike from a polite position!
