On this page is the latest generation of my extended hours bicycle lights.
this is the fourth year that I have bicycled this type of ride. I coordinate
the ride with the longest day of the year. For about two weeks on both side
of the summer equinox, the days are close the same length.
For my 69 birthday, I planned a double century with 4 hour of bicycle
lights. From my house in Philadelphia to Wildwood NJ was 100 miles. I got to
Wildwood about 2 PM. I decided to go on to Cape May NJ for an extra 20+
miles. I return home about 2 AM, riding with a flashlight I purchase along
the way. Details of the others increasing longer ride are on my web page
http://www.billcotton.com/ Also my progression with lighting.
With no way to recharge batteries on a continues ride, I have work with
LED. I have components from Maxim semiconductor to build a fast NiMH 12
volts charger. One problem that developed, the 10 cell holder available
aren't rugged enough for bicycle.
I will start the ride Monday June 14 at 4 AM. Plan to finish about Midnight
Tuesday.
