Jill, there's a name for that "three-wheeled bike".
It's called a "tricycle".

You guys actually took the time to read the story and the most intelligent
response either of you could come up with was to snivel about grammar.

There's nothing to say about the guy on the trike. He needs a new
trike. The article was very clear about that.

I read the article....I wondered if the poor guy's health is declining
further.

Not to be insensitive or anything but how does one fall on a trike? Much
less often.

I assume they meant he fell off the trike somehow.

It doesn't take anyone who knows something about reading very much time
at all to read, so it's inconsequential that we "actually took the time
to read the story"; and our snivelling about Jill's grammar is far more
intelligent than your snivelling about our snivelling.

If you ever met Glen you would understand. He can't walk without a walker
and can speak only with great difficulty.
It's amazing he can ride a bike (or a trike for you pedants) at all.

My point in posting the story was the hope that some of us may find a guy
like Glen inspiring. He can't walk without a walker, yet he manages to ride
just about every day. You should see him; I'd be amazed if he even makes 3
mph.
But if all you got out of the story was that some guy needs a new bike,
that's fine.

Thanks for the clarification. I was kinda wondering if the reporter was
making stuff up to spice up the story or something (not that journalist
ever do that). I always think it's awsome to hear about people riding
their bike and overcoming adversity. I only hope that I would ride that
much/hard if I faced such difficulty.
Dan.

I find him inspiring....I've have little excuse not to get off my butt and
ride!

If he's become weaker, and apparently that's what happens when he
doesn't ride, then the handling characteristics of a heavy tricycle
might overpower him and push him off the saddle.
The Greenspeed replacement is a tadpole configuration (two front
wheels). They supposedly handle easier and eliminate the need for a
heavy differential drive. The recumbent sling seat would permit adding
a restraint if necessary. Riding closer to the ground makes the
recumbent trike even more stable.

Like probably others did, I read the story and found it interesting and
inspiring -- but didn't find anything particular to comment on. Thanks for
posting it.

I just had an 86 year old patient who had been riding his trike to his
daughter's house when he somehow lost control, rode off the road and
overturned in a ditch. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured.

One of my inspirational cycling neighbors, who's nearing 80, had balance
problems and stopped riding. Her family got her an inexpensive tricycle. I
fixed a flat for her, and then rode the trike back to her house. It wasn't
as stable as I expected. The center of gravity was very high and you can't
lean the bike into the corners at all. Probably no problem for Nancy --
she's maybe 90 pounds.

Apostrophe misuse irks me as well Rick, but I read this as a contraction
(doctor has) rather than a plural and it didn't bother me at all.
BTW, "english" (sic) is usually capitalized.
