I'm in Minnesota, USA, and wondering when bike manufacturers typically release their next model year bikes. I'm wondering this because I assume that there is a subsequent price drop in the "old" bikes. Also curious as to whether there is a certain time of year when prices are best; do bike shops tend to drop prices at the end of the summer to move out stock?

Local Cannondale dealer told me today that he's expecting the 2005's in around late August or something like that -- at the very least, he'll have specs and pricing by then.
I don't know if most bike manufacturers release their model years at the same time like car manufacturers do, but it would make sense if they did (don't want competitors getting the jump on them and all that).
local Giant dealers in Australia already take orders on 2005 stock right now and the 2005 specs are on dealer web.... but not on Giant web site.... And my local Trek guy tells me 2005 Trek road bikes are due around September, give or take a few weeks.....
Giant has an all-new model, OCR-0 in 2005 range with a fair bit of carbon in it.....

Most bikes with real changes will be introduced at Interbike in early October. They will often be available in September to dealers.
Bikes with color changes only or minor parts swaps are starting to trickle into dealers now.
