A Colleague was hospitalised and his cycle damaged due to a road
surface being badly reinstated after utility work.
Fortunately he was a member of some union ,one of the civil service
ones ISTR .Though nothing to do with his work they supported his
battle against the highway authority and whichever gas board as it was
then. Both were trying to pass the buck to each other.
Evidence possibly came from the Police as they had been called to the
scene.
Eventually it was the Gas people who accepted responsibility.
Compensation was almost a five figure sum and this a while back.
Same week as Manchester Airport accident,as some injured from that
were in the same ward.
At the time it was a large amount of money but he has few natural
teeth left and several nasty scars.
Now this sounds cruel but he was a real life Frank Spencer.
When he announced that he was cycling to Scotland for a holiday and
decided to turn it a sponsered ride for some local charity we all
chipped in. On the side a sweepstake was being run as to where he
would actually crash. The winner gave his take to the charity.
