"The contracts of Peter van Petegem and Serge Baguet have been
confirmed, and it's almost certain that Wim Vansevenant will sign
[with Lotto-Domo]. However, with riders like Leif Hoste going to
Discovery Channel for two years and Axel Merckx also talking to
Bruyneel's team, Lotto's lineup for next year is expected to undergo
    considerable changes."

Lance gets one of his friends (Axel) over to help him win #7. At
    least it appears likely.

  2. Lance and Axel are friend?

  3. Lotto Domo will not be there next year, its Omega Lotto. And surely the
line-up will change, Lefevere will be manager of the 2 Belgian ProTour teams
and he already said Merckx should retire. He said that before the Alps
    though...

Omega is the firm of Bodysol, so the Belgian part of that team will be a
main provider for the new Omega Lotto outfit.

  4. A Merckx on a Trek ? Interesting, eh

Not so different than Merckxs rebadged as Caloi. As in what Motorola rode
    one year.

Lance and Eddy are like father and son according to several sources. I would

    wouldn't you?

My EX is built by Litespeed but it isn't like any Litespeed. It's an Eddy
Merckx pure and simple. Do you suppose that the name on the bike means that
person made each and every one of them himself?

Yeah, no doubt your EX has those "Proprietary" head tube angles.<G>

  11. No no no Carl, that would be a Merckx, as in Axel Merckx, riding on a Trek.

I'm just saying it isn't as traitorous as it may seem.

BTW, do we know for sure that Trek is sponsoring the DC team next year? I
can't see them jumping off the LANCE gravy train, though.

I too have always found that most humorous.

  14. Dumbasses

Axel has worked for Lance in the Ardennes classics before his Big Story
started. They got along at Motorola.

Nope, a Merckw on an Armstrong. I bet that Trek will get rid of its
Lemond division in favor of an Armstrong line of bikes.

Tell you what Zeno, I have 10 bikes and the two Merckx's handle better than
the other 8. The geometry doesn't look different though there are small
differences between all of the bikes. It is the balance of handling that I
admire. They are fast uphill, downhill and on the flat. The only other bike
I have that's close is my Basso Loto.

Similar testimony, involving an old Merckx Corsa SL and lots of miles on dirt
roads (gravel, rocks, like you see in the old Tour and Giro photos).

I will admit, proprietary is a fairly long word.

Or they could just print something that is wrong, as is done elsewhere. --TP

Sorry Tom, I couldn't resist taking a dig at the "proprietary" thing, which
has always struck me as funny -- a sort of magic formula. It's not like
somebody with nothing better to do couldn't figure the angles in 10 minutes.

I take your point about Merckx formulating unique specs for the EX for the
builder, Litespeed, which I agree results in a "Merckx."

But, I was talking about "rebadging," which is not the same as "building to
    spec."

It's widely acknowledged that in his 1993 world championship road race win,
LA road a stock Litespeed Ultimate frame that had been rebadged & painted as
a "Merckx.." Just the other day, I saw an interview with Eddy where he was
talking about his long relationship with LA, in which he said (paraphrasing
the first part), "You know, he won the World Championship on a bike "with my
badge on it"." A little disingenuous on Eddy's part, but accurate.

Perhaps I am more attuned to news about that particular bike, since I have
ridden the same LS Ultimate frame, with numerous component upgrades, on a
regular basis for the last 11 years.

Similarly, LA's first time trial wins in the TDF were on a LS blade
repainted & "rebadged" as a "Trek," until Trek eventually got around to
building their own . I believe you will find that the infamous KOM Richy V.,
rode a rebadged & repainted LS Vortex to victory on more than one occasion
    too.

I never interpretted "proprietary" to mean "secret". I always assumed what
it meant was that they changed for every size and so you couldn't say what
the rake and trail were. And since it was Eddy I think he's just saying that
the geometry is good for that size.

I've gotten the occassional gaffaw at some Fred coming into a bicycle shop,
looking at a bike and asking what the fork and seat tube rake were. I feel
like saying, "Yeah, 72 degres is, like, WAY faaster than 73 degrees man."

I always figured in this case that "proprietary" meant "possibly
unfashionable". But measurable. Approx. 73deg head tube on my old Corsa.

"Yeah, 72 degres is, like, WAY faaster than 73 degrees man."

So that was the problem... --TP
