Just turn 29 and starting to get into the whole road bike thing, I was hoping to train real hard and eventually get into club racing in the next year or so (is this too high of an exspectation?). Guess its never too late! I live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and was wondering if there is a down to earth bike club for a newbie to join?

Randwick Botany. Try Heffron Park, Maroubra on most saturday afternoons when they run crits. A down to E grade. Lots of fun.

I have a good mate who was in Eastern Suburbs last year. He didn't like it (or the club mamagement). To be honest with you I know first hand what a [censored] their club secretary/president is. Not a very nice bloke. Lets say he doesn't know how to run honest, fair races. So my mate is now racing with Randwick Botany which has a good social side to things and also runs good races. They are well known as a friendly club but also have a good deal of talent in their ranks which is encouragement for everyone else. I personally don't ride for them but I know quite a few of the Randwick guys from racing at Heffron and they all tend to be pretty likeable. Never heard of STEAM. To the best of my knowlege Sydney CC doesn't have much of a reputation as producing results. never see many of their riders at races. I'd say they're more of a socail club than anything else.
I only heard of STEAM last weekend, when they had a few teams in the NSW Club TTT. I heard that they are more into Triathalon???
Skip Sydney CC.
Randwick would be the way to go, but you should look at Lidcombe Auburn as well. I know it's out of the way, but not that far out.
I emailed STEAM and they seam really helpful, so will give it a go this wednesday. I'm pretty much into cross training and gettin a balance though not so far as to doin triathlons... so it might be what I need. heard they went well in the time trials too...hmmm... Not much good response from Sydney CC so far...Might check out Randwick on the weekend too. thanks for the feedback so far it really helps🙂
