First thing you do take the mounting screws all the way out and put
some grease on them this will save you a lot of grief later on. They
still work even though all the grease in the ratchet part is gone.
They are model 500 the rubber parts last about 10000 miles and cost
$10 to replace. I have replaced them with a model 600 it has 9 small
clicks for the front derailer verses 3 big clicks on the model 500
this allows trim control to keep the front derailer from rubbing on
the chain. The model 600 may not work on older cranks with their wider
spacing. It would be nice if gripshift would add a couple of clicks to
the front shifter.
