I am only going to reply to this since it was true. The bike was modified
by the shop, ported, bigger carbs, Denco expansion chambers, better tires.
Modified by me by putting on a larger front drive sprocket so as to not
over RPM the engine at top speed. The bike had a 160 MPH speedo which
pegged at about 170, after which the tach continued to gain from that
point, about 8,000 RPM to nearly 9,000. Exactly how much I don't know
since I was busy keeping the bike on the road and outrunning a very
[censored] California Highway Patrol cop. This was about 1975 and the
road was from highway 395 down to the town of Mojave, about 11 miles
dead straight and 1% downhill. I did this with my head in the bicycle
aero tuck since if I sat up even partially the wind would nearly rip
me off the bike. Oh, no helmet either, not required until that law.
Once was enough. I lost the cop but resolved to never try that again.
That was my adrenalin for the year.
BTW the early 750s had a short frame and were very bad, the later ones
like I went so fast on had a longer and much stiffer frame.
Anyway, my need for speed pretty much went away after that, and I have
kept it under 140 ever since, and that was only once in 1990.
Now 50 MPH coasting a bicycle downhill seems plenty.

I snipped most of the flame stuff out. The newspaper article just
reinforces what I was told by a police officer friend of mine who
scraped by with an IQ of 125. What bothers me is being pulled over
by a cop with an IQ that is by his job less than 125 and being
treated like I am the idiot. Perhaps if we had a minimum IQ for
politicians, like 130, it would never have gotten to this point,
and 2 weeds would never have made it to the White House. Of
course this would weed out most Democrats, too, so we could
start with some fresh faces.
