Hi how's it going, I'm new here and I have never owned a decent road or tri bike. I've just had a couple of relatively [censored] mountain bikes and I'm looking at getting a decent road or tri bike. I've been researching but I'm sure others' advice would be most worthwhile so I'd really appreciate it.
The bike will be for transportation (as opposed to competition/recreation) primarily, partly because of it's cheap running cost compared to a car. I was thinking about something like the Shimano 105 groupset and I was also thinking about a tri bike with the aero bars and shorter frame. I've never ridden a tri bike but from riding other bikes I get the feeling that I'd like aero bars.

I would have to say based on what your intended use is, go with a road bike. And the reasons being are, tri bikes are specific for that sport. They are more aero dynamic then a road bike also weigh a little more then most road bikes and aero bars are really not that comfortable for long rides! I have two sets of bars for my bike and my bike by the way is a road bike that I slapped some aero bars on when I'm doing tri's and then regular bars for road ridding. I researched this alot before I made my bike purchase this year and ended up going with the road bike and I'm glad I did. You'll get better use out of a road bike then a tri bike but this is all just my opinion. Good luck!🙂
Okay, I have been looking around in shops and I have come across Avanti bikes and Specialized bikes that interest me. The main one that interests me at the moment would be the Specialized Allez Elite. It and all Specialised bikes apparently have very good frames, they have lifetime warranties. The Allez Elite comes with a full Shimano 105 18 speed groupset, Carbon-2 carbon fibre fork and Pave advanced composite seatpost, and it has [font=Arial]Alex ALX-330 wheels apparently with fully sealed hubs. I read one experience however about someone having problems with these wheels so I'm not sure about them. Any advice I could get from you guys would be great and much appreciated.[/font]
