Going on from a thread of a few months ago about disc brakes allegedly forcing front wheels to exit the drop-outs if the QR was less than mega tight: One of the ideas mooted to help prevent this was to point the drop-out forward instead of downward so that the opening wasn't tangenital to the PCD of the pads centre. And guess what? The new Manitou Nixon forks have just that feature (Tacit acknowledgment of a problem, I don't think so, just common sense and questioning of why it's accepted that something is the way it is).

Maybe. Its basically designed primarily for a 20mm axle mounted part way up the leg. If you put a vertical dropout there to mount a QR axle the leg would interfere with putting the axle in. So either could be the reason for the dropout angle. Probably will never know which.
