08 Ergo problem

Never heard that one before. I've been riding with Ergo's since 93.
I'd take them to the LBS. Find a so called Campy certified shop.
They'll get ya squared away.

Thats about the most common issue ever on Campag shifters. The return springs are shot, your ergo's need to be rebuilt.

Option A) do it yourself, B) have a shop do it.

In my experience you used to get about 10,000-20,000 before requiring this. Newer levers seem to be anecdotally getting less. YMMV.

I've had mine since late July, and they have about 2000-2500 kms. I'd say that's significantly less than 10-20 thousand.

I've taken apart some 2001 Veloce levers before, so I think I can handle this[img]cyclingforums.comcool.gifOpen ↗[/img]. Thanks for the replies.

Do a search on youtube, there are a couple of videos of people rebuilding their ergos. Good as a guide.

About the springs, Branford says online that they have the "red edition" g-springs that came out with the newer record red series. Will those work in my Centaur ergo levers? Its not a huge deal, but it could be fun to try. Maybe I'll get those AND some Centaur springs just for kicks.

IIRC, the RED Record springs (part of the Record Pro groupset) were a response to pro riders' desire for a firmer, more positive shift mode and feedback feel. They should be stiffer than 'regular' Record springs, but I don't know if they'll fit a Centaur lever.

Branford should be able to advise you as to the interchangeablility.

These levers, thankfully gone for 2009, are not the best and since you have a 3 year warranty, I say send it to a warranty center for a new one. The teeny bits that control the thumb button(actually a little lever system that releases a big wound up spring that controls up shifts)‚ is integrated into the lever and not replacable.

2007/8 Centaur and below are a derivative of XENON WERGO, not like the more familiar 2006 and older ERGO. No 'g' springs in this lever

NOT on 2007/8 Centaur and below ERGO. They will work(and we have them also) on 2006 and older ERGO(all of them), 2007/8 Record and Chorus..NOT on any 2009 nor 2007/8 Centaur, Veloce, Mirage or Xenon of any year.

And they will also say you need a new spring carrier and probably a shift disc, both of which is not true.

well alright then. i suppose ill get a hold of the QBP guys.
