100% HR commute!

maybe I got all your karma, of my 5 lights the 1st 4 were all green and the fifth I got the whole lane to myself, finally no peds on their crossings at the end. The first light is evil, half the time it would be green but I cannot get across the traffic until its gone red.

i get 50-50. Some days I'll get approx 50% of all possible lights and others it seems about 10%. Im sure there has been less traffic the last week or so and Im leaving at the same time. can cut a possible 50min commute to about 35 minutes!

The [censored] (road planners) have inserted a set
of lights at the bottom of the big hill heading into
Ringwood. 70kph, wet and they want me to stop
right before the climb on the other side of the lights!

They're also putting in ANOTHER ped crossing
on the east side of Burke Rd. on Whitehorse
because obviously the one 50m away wasn't
enough! I think it's because of the bike path that
crosses there. I hope they get rid of the other one
if that's the case. 3 ped crossings in 100m sux!

Yep. links up the anniversary trail that goes all the way from Ashburton to Kew. I doubt that particular one will get as used much as the one down further in the Deepdene Shops.
PS why not ride parallel (heading north) to Burke Rd and stop suckin fumes by riding along the railway path from down near East Canterbury station or Canterbury Rd?

PS saw 2 guys doing trials tricks up-n-down the bollards/platforms nea r the new Whitehorse lights. awesome stuff!

I ride up Burwood Rd which T's at Burke Rd. Seems logical to
continue along Burke. Railway path? Dunno it. I get lost in side
streets! :-) and prefer to dodge cars than make lots of turns,
hence my rather direct commute route (straight, left, straight,
right, straight, right, straight, left). Having to make right-hand
turns in peak hour is SLOW so I try to avoid them.

Yep I occasionally see some of the Camberwell crew
riding the big tyre at the servo or off other stuff around
Deepdene(?) and that other 'car door for your face'
place.. um.. Balwyn.

I think I saw you, that was Tuesday right?? On the footpath at the
bottom of Victoria Pde near Hoddle St. Was that your fixie, blue with
bullhorn bars? I thought it might be you and tried to catch up but once
you hit the construction site where it starts to get steeper I gave it away.

that stretch at the top of the hill is nastee; just as you are catching your breath, you get tailgated by over-enthusiastic buses and cars who cant resist the temptation of that big empty lane on the left...
Like going up Albert St usually. Little traffic and the hill is slightly less gruesome, but the slow leak dictated 'as-the-crow-flies' route-selection

I turn off to Albert St after the building site (unless the Hoddle St
traffic light gods are smiling and I can get straight through to Albert
St), but you had done some kind of disappearing act (or maybe gone up
onto the footpath for more air). Couldn't see you on Vic Pde or the side
street to Albert, or is there some kind of secret back lane?

What time do you guys hit this area.....I either turn left onto Victoria
Parade from Wellington St (opposite construction site), then turn left onto
Clarendon St down to Wellington Pde and then into the city, or if I am on
either of my mountain bikes, I cross Hoddle St into Albert St from Elizabeth
(after coming up off Yarra Trail). I then cut up past George St Cafe and
across footbridge between MCG and tennis centre.

I usually hit this area at about 0645h to 0700h in the morning and at around
1610h to 1625h in the arvo. I quite often stop at George St Cafe for a
coffee as they open at 0700h on a Friday.....great coffee and it is my
little reward to myself for riding every day.
