Chaps,
Until I sat down for lunch opposite an ex-Olympic swimmer a few days
ago, I never dreamed anyone would have such a mileage schedule. Has
anyone ever stuck to that kind of distance for any length of time, and
is it about right even today?
Cheers

CheersSome decades ago, when mega distance was still new and seemingly the answer,
I remember reading of a russian doing 30K a day. -

The better question should be, how long does that take them, and what else
do they do... do they even have a job/career besides swimming?Micheal
I feel almost lazy with my 2km a day swims

I don't know if they swim that much, but it is definitely not
impossible. Timewise, olympians may train six to seven hours a day.
maybe, three hours in the morning and three in the evening.Supossing that they can easily swim over three thousand an hour, they
would be swimming nine thousand every three hours. If they swim 15,000
thousand a day, that is over 100k a week.Andres

weightlifters, swimmers, etcetera. -

CheersIn the mid 70's our club team would get up to 100,000 per week during peak
training. This was during the summer when we didn't have school. We had
three workouts a day. Up to 3 hours in the morning, an hour at noon and
another 2 hours in the evening. We would max out at 20,000+ per day.
17,000+ was more the norm. Under 15,000 and we wondered what was wrong. We
only rested for one meet, unless you qualified for nationals. I don't
remember thinking we were all that unique at the time. We didn't think much
about it. It's just what we did. -
