My LBS seems to think they don't exist any more (or at least
that they're too difficult to find to be worth looking for).
I tried a few online sources without much luck but I hadn't
tried the CTC shop yet so I'll give it a go...

I think it's a case of "Can't be bothered"....most shops
deal with at least one wholesaler with Conti.

Very OT - I bought 2 bundles of Conti MTB tyres recently at
an auction in Glasgow. I think I bought 14 tyres for ukp10
plus commission plus vat.

The Sports look just the ticket. Thanks. I've currently got
Schwalbe Marathons, which I think are great, but I was
looking for something a bit slicker and they don't make the
Marathon Slicks in 27".

Now, this may be an idiotic question, but the current
tyres got 27x11/4 - can I switch to 27x11/8 on the same
rims and would there be a discernible performance
difference if I did?

I think it's partly pot-luck which person I speak to in the
shop - this was the same chap that told me that 27" and 700C
wheels are the same size. And assorted other bits of info
that have turned out to be plain wrong.

They will probably be okay, as long as your rims aren't
incredibly wide. What are the rims you're using?

As for performance, narrower tyres should offer slightly
lower rolling resistance, all other factors being equal.
They'll absorb slightly less impact, though, and need to be
pumped up a bit harder to avoid pinch punctures. Not a huge
difference in any respect, however.

My observational powers must be lacking. I looked on Wiggle
and a couple of other places but found nothing. I've had
more luck with Settle and SJS though.

It is what he wrote; I'm not sure if he intended to suggest
that you would be interested. It's **very** unlikely he'll
have 27" ATB tyres!! I think it's fair to say that they'd be
a first! ;-)
