Does anyone know why Trek and Specialized are stonewalling the 29er
revolution? It's obvious to anyone now, that the 29er is the way to go.
Trek has a 69er, that is truely an extended middle finger to the 29er
movement. They make bikes, why not make something people want, and is
superior to what they offer now?

Face it ...Trek via Fisher was the first major company to produce
multiple models of 29er. Why would a single corporation (trek/fisher)
produce bikes that directly compete for a niche market? As for the bet
on the 69/96 market, it only makes sense. The Fisher side continues to
produce the 29's and (somewhat under pressure from TB) Trek jumps into
the 69/96 market. As for SBC, I assume you are refering to their attempt to block 29ers
from UCI competition. Eityher that or you just have your head up your
@ss. While it is true that they tried to block them from competition,
that was probably because it takes a while for large companies to pull
new models together. It has been well documented that Filip Meirhaeghe
had asked that Specialized develop a 29 for him in 2002/2003, of
course all that was put on hold in 2004. Atleast there was some
trickle down from the Meirhaeghe disaster, Specialized 29er tires have
been available since last season. Now, with the new models beginning
to trickle in, the new Stumpjumpers and Rockhopper 29ers will be out
shortly. (July-October?)Quoted message said:

55ers (69/96ers) are part of an evolution ...or outgrowth of the 29er
market. Trek openly said, last year, the T.B. had asked for a "69er"
and that if interest was good enough, it would go into production. How
is that "an extended middle finger" when they have not withdrawn any
29ers from the Fisher side of the company? There have been small market producers of 69/96ers for several years
now and many of them produce 29ers as well.Quoted message said:

Superior in what way? All bikes have drawbacks. Here are a few that
most everyone agrees with (there are more) for 29ers.29ers are harder to spin up. They have a more limited tire selection
(although it is growing all the time). 29ers are harder to get around
tight switchbacks.R

I guess I didn't know what I was talking about. I'm trying to find a
reasonalby priced 29er, but the selection is so small, and the ones out
there seem overweight and overpriced, due to low volume I assume. People
don't buy them because they don't know about them, who's fault is that. I
think if the major players pushed them, they would dominate the 26 in no
time. But they have a lot invested in the 26, so here I am stuck with
minimal choices. -

Do tell! I've been working on one too. Love those Club Roost
CrossTerra Tire 27" x 1 3/8" tires.First, we move on the CX market. We sell them as "29ers for 'cross"
Then, we convince the road market that just as 650c was driven out of
the market before, now 27" will drive 700c out of the market. The key
moment will be when we convince 27" roadies to start referring to 700c
wheels as "triathlete wheels." All good things follow from that. Finally, we get Grant to just Haaate 27" wheels. That should ensure
their triumphant arrival, atop cheesy replicas of expensive road bikes,
at the gates of the department stores." - Ryan CousineauGreg

Interesting question, my guess would be the people.

Top down demand ... interesting.
Actually, with the flat market many of the "major" players are looking
to push into niche markets. They are really just hoping to hit the
next big thing ... even if they don't know why.Quoted message said:
