Why? did she ever denounce her Welshness? Aren't Welsh people allowed to be winners? If so, has she
    handed back her World Championship?

Yes -- unlucky -- great effort. Great season.

I suggest you read the thread *I* started called "fingernails" Marc, and specifically my poast where
I say, "Not at all, she has done *wonderfully* with a podium finish! Give the girl credit where it's
due - she's young, with a phenominal season behind her and a podium finish at the world championship
after winning the world cup. Be *proud* of her achievements!! She has, yet again, done Wales & Great
    Britain proud."

That chip on your shoulder is appearing again, Marc ;-)

It's been invisible recently? It's not really been a Cooke week, her brother was beaten in the CX
this afternoon, ( He won last week and was expected to do sao again this) but at least he got to
    lap his dad!

Okay, so she didn't get the gold, but she did get a podium place, well-deserved and she's had an
excellent season. She's young, she's a great talent and she's got a very mature head on those
    young shoulders.

I'm not quite sure what she was thinking on that attack downhill, but it was heartbreaking seeing
her being sat on when she needed to attack later.

It's okay, he'll have got them now. It's the Welsh Internet, see, it's a bit [censored] compared to the
    British one.

Somewhat OT, but cyclingnews.com had a picture of her labeled

    "Nicole Cooke, England"

so I wrote to them yesterday and pointed out that she was Welsh and riding for the GB team.

I got a very nice email back this morning saying that they had corrected it, and indeed she is now
    labeled "Nicole Cooke, GB".

Full marks to cyclingnews.com there I think (I let them off the original mistake, them being
    Austrailian and all!)

I had great fun this summer by pointing out to a group of Americans with a problem in distinguishing
England and Britain that "there is no blue on the English flag" and watching confusion spread for a
good half hour. My further hint that there is no red on the Scottish Saltire just added to their
    confusion.

    Cruel really -- but fun.

A lesson that should be driven home to most England Football morons.

While that might have been true in 1966 -- when the Union Flag formed part of the World Cup Wille
official emblem -- there has, in recent years, been a widespread adoption of the English flag at
most sporting occasions (not just football) involving an English as opposed to a British or UK team.

Maybe the message has not got through to deepest Wales yet.

Why should you think that, there's nothing welsh on the union flag.

Probably because those [censored] English subjugated Wales about 1200 years ago. Perhaps they should
have just wiped it off the map.

You may think that, I coudn't possibly comment.

It was true until the early 1980s. Until then it was difficult to get a St George's Cross and one
    saw very few of them.

Being really cruel to some of them it you are capable of spinning a good yarn is convincing them of
the little known Scottish /Russian naval alliance that existed pre revolution. To see what I mean
    have a glance at crwflags.comru~xix.html.

For those that have not got the time the saltaire of St Andrew was the Russian ensign pre 1917.

Furthermore, it was scots from the Russian navy who founded the United States Navy.
