Anything at all is better than nothing.

This latest result reminds me of a thread from just a few
years ago where I wondered out loud why Rebellin was so
quiet at that time. I believe it was Tosi that offered the
explanation that he is a "loser". I wonder if it is worth
the trouble to go and find that article? I feel vindicated
since I was one of the few that insisted the guy has plenty
    of talent.

The really great thing about this string of big wins is that
very few people would dare claim that he is a doper. These
results go a long way in showing that top athletes do not
need drugs to compete and those that do are still going to
need plenty of talent and hard work to go along with it if
    they want to win.

While I certainly hope you are correct about Rebellin being
clean, please explain how these three wins shows (proves?)
that he's clean. Were Gweiss, Areostea and those Italians
who dominated many of the early season classics in the early
1990s clean, or did they just get the EPO protocol correct
before the French and Balgian teams?

Dare I say, the most impressive ride of the year so far,
which is already filled with amazing accomplishments like
    Valverde's 10 wins, Petacchi's equally amazing win %age, and
CSC's domination of Paris-Nice and Criterium International?

And one which will go mostly unheralded Stateside... save

I'm sure that Lafferty's answer isn't that the guy has been
standing on the verge for 10 years, but that he's finally
    bought the right drugs.

    Yup.

Today and Thursday. Coverage is lots better than Flanders
and Roubaix. They showed the last hour (~47k) with
commercial breaks, but without editing, like the Fleche
coverage on Wednesday. Made sense this time.

Yes I was one who, like many others, considered him a
loser. His record spoke for itself: lot of victories in
non important races, and many runner-up places when it
really counted. What happened in the last 8 days really
surprised me. I had been following pro cycling for 30
years and I never saw anything like that. There had
already been riders who started winning big time deep in
their 30s, but usually it was people that for some reason
weren't allowed to compete at top level before (ie
Tchmil). When you had tactically challenged guys finally
winning a race they had been chasin' their whole career,
usually it was a once in a while trick (ie Duclos). But 3
in a row? It seems something really changed in the head of
Rebellin. And changing your mind for real is much more
difficult than changing your phisical shape. I admit I had
been proven wrong, but this streak is definitely something
really particular, amazing. One of the biggest surprises
in the whole history of cycling.

Oh yeah? Well I predict that the sun will rise in the ...
east tomorrow. Just you wait and see!

I'm only trying to be a smartass a little bit. The point
(other than smart-assed-ness) is that some things are too
predictable to feel too good about having called.

Actually, Duclos was twice in a while, IIRC. 😉

The coverage was much better today, I agree - though it
seemed an easier race to cover, with no breaks that mattered
until the end. It also helped to have Paul back.

I think what Tosi was trying to express is that dopey
Rebellin isn't the kind of italian stallion he's
    attacted to.

  17. Well, maybe it was a preemptive strike against the
inevitable doping charges, but his team doctor has said that
he just got over the Tapia parasite, some sort of intestinal
worm, that he's had for the last five years. Said doctor
said somehting to the effect of "Every time he goes to the
bathroom, it gets rid of 90% of the parasite. But the rest
    just keeps regenerating itself."

During my own 12-year tropical intestinal disease odyssey, I
... oh, I'll stop. Whose stool do we have to hear about
    next? Bartoli's? Pieri's? Ullrich's? Isn't this why doctor-
    patient confidentiality exists?--Shayana Kadidal

now you're being naive. Topathletes always want to become
better and better. But sure, you can't turn a donkey into a
    racehorse.

I don't feel good about having called it. But you're
certainly right that we all know that anyone that wins is a
    doper to Lafferty.

I am always somewhat perplexed by the doping charge in classics. They seem to be races at least nowadays where 5-6 people had the form to win. Usually it was tactics luck ect. Look at LBL for instance. If rebellin and not boogerd had chased down vino, then boogered would have won and if they had both refused to chase then vino would have won. So basically, I guess we have to say they were all doping. What I mean to say is that when you have a finish like the one in LBL or PR I can't single one guy out from another. If someone can tell me how they can then please do?
