  1. ... then i'll be doing my first sprint distance triathlon. i did a shorter, beginner's tri back in
May, and now the moment of truth approaches. 750m-20k-5k.

i'm confident in all departments, although I have very recently been plagued by hamstring cramps
during my runs/bricks. a look at my logbook indicates that the problem days followed my long
distance (over 1km) swims. i don't know if the swim affects my hams much. i don't even use my legs
    much in the swim.

i DO know that i've been cycling much more of late, and perhaps my lack of stretching afterwards has
led to the tight hamstrings. so i'm nursing these babies, lots of stretching and rolling and
massaging... and will get overall body tune-ups with the chiropractor and rolfer this week. my taper
this week should allow more time for rest and recovery, too.

all i need now is some luck in ridding myself of the hamstring problem, and the race should go
great. but if i must face the cramp during the race, at least i have now learned how to drop the
    pace and run through
    it.

    nearly there....

  2. Hello Cam

Great that your back to race.....please let me know how it turn out. I'm training for my second race
on 16th of august, also a sprint, but
500/38/11,5....a bit longer that my first....I'm getting pretty excited about this great sport. I
just bought a racerbike from a friend (old one, but in good shape, can't afford a new bike
now...would love to)and I racing to get used to it instead of my mountainbike.

  3. Mogens/Cam.. I share your excitement, I too am preparing for my 2nd tri, first at the sprint
distance as well; D-Day is Aug 23.. It will be my wifes 2nd as well. We am totally hooked on
triathlon, now our 8yr son wants to do an Iron Kids race.. cool. and our local bike store is going
to love us.. :-) This sport is the best, my physical and mental outlook have never been better. The
feed back this group gives is fantastic. Good luck to all.

    Hey Mogens,

Maybe I can scrape together a little race report after the event. Interesting how these sprint races
can be of just about any combination of distances for the three sports. I like the swim distance in
your race, but not the bike... and i'd have to step up the run training to do
    11.5. Where'd THAT come from?

Good that you have a road bike now. I'm still going to use my mountain bike for this race, but will
likely borrow a road bike for my next race. I'm sure it'll make quite a difference.

Best of luck in your race, too.

And best of luck to you, Jim, in your race. Yep, it's an addictive high that one gets out of this
sport. A nice healthy, crazy high.

A drag that the bike side of tri's can get expensive, seeing as swimming and running are so
inexpensive (other than the price of good running shoes).

  7. Best of luck! I just got hooked in this sport this year. I got involved with one of the Fundraiser
Organizations. I will be doing my second fundraiser at the NYC Triathlon next month!

It is amazing what a little exercise can do for you!

    Again, Best of luck!

    Paul.

Hey thanks, Paul. You know, I don't even think much about the health benefits of this sport
anymore..... I know I shouldn't take it for granted. I just love working out with the goals of doing
races. The upper bod has really seen some improvement from all of the swimming. And man, I've
actually got some ABS now! But those'll be gone soon enough with winter and greater intake of
    Guinness. Mmmmm.....

Best of luck in your racing, too.
