Wouldn't normally mention this kind of light abuse, but today was different.
I was minding my own business cycling down the main road when a particular car goes past, it's passenger screaming abuse at me. I accept it as part of being a cyclist and continue on. Come to the next set of lights which are on red. I'm making my way slowly up the inside the line of cars. Suddenly a door opens. Not altogether unexpected. Stop in pleanty of time. It's the same car. This passenger gets of out his wife's car (she's driving, crying young boy in the back), can of Special Brew in hand (stereotypical?). He's slurring so much I can't make out the majority of what he's saying. Amunst the F words and other general rubbish I hear:
"cycle on the pavement"
What a good idea (!)

Still, may be he was too drunk to be able to deny a claim to the police that he had actually been driving until his wife insisted she took over when he didn't see the lights had gone red and almost ran into a cyclist...
Commiserations, as a newbie I still see main roads as a nightmare, even when there are no drunks!

While I enjoy a drink I think anyone who feels the need to drink high alcohol content beer whilst a passenger in a car (and some I know do it while actually driving) is a sad git and probably an alcoholic or on their way to becoming one.
My advice to him would have been "Go forth and multiply you urinitated ladies naughty bit" but of course substituting words he's more likely to be familiar with. Should he then have resorted to violence I would use my undulled by drink, and therefore superior reactions and co-ordination, to deck the fatherless person and thence use his head to provide extra traction for my rear tyre if on a mtb or gently step over him whilst carrying my bike if a road bike and pass on commiserations to his wife for either being married to a drunken pig or resembling a pig herself should that apply (which might explain his drunkeness).
(Hmm.....my new years resolution is to try and be a more pleasant person so maybe I should strike the last paragraph).

I think it is too. He got aggressive in the end so I slammed the door into him and rode off. What I should have done which would have hurt him more is take his beer away.

It was probably a reality TV hidden camera show. So you just lost your chance for 15 minutes of fame on "Cageman" the new series just commisioned for the BBC.
