  1. Hi everyone!

I've been on a "less junk food/smaller portions" diet for the past 4 months or so and I've dropped
about 28lbs, I feel excellent, look much better and I'm very pleased with my hard work. I am very
close to my target, within 10lb I would say. I've been doing regular basic workouts for the past 2
months and the results are definitely showing. However, I have extra abdominal fat that I would like
to get rid of so the work I've done on my abs can show. What is the best method to loose the flub?
Sit-ups are obviously not helping, I do 100-150 per day, and after 2 months I see very little change
(I can feel a six pack under the fat tho). Is there something else I can do to help the situation
out? I am not a fitness person, I just needed to change my lifestyle, and I would like to explore
    how far I can go.

This is my first post in this group, so welcome me nicely 🙂

    Thank you.

Welcome:o) There is something you can do, but it includes cardio-vascular exercise...😄 ! Sorry;o)
The thing is that weight training and sit ups do tighten all the muscles, but when there is still a
bit of fat laying all over over the body, they simply don't show. Dieting is good for removing some
fat, but to really see a difference, you have to sweat hard and have your heart pumping 30-40
minutes a day....then you will begin to really burn off the fat and those tight muscles will show:o)

  3. And here's the official welcome wagon 🙂

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support, advice, and encouragement.
Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may
want to look for that later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ: didian.comasdww our welcome notice:

Frequently seen acronyms on this NG: NSV = Non-Scale Victory WOE = Way of Eating WOL = Way of Life

Here's a short synopsis of the USA program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you lose weight those points
allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need less to operate). At 183 pounds and based
on the new US flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are
allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on
a particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches
150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5 servings of
fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop calculator ...
    zythra.compoints.exe

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points. Points do not carry over
from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide
them up and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be
used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing for you to look into.
There is lots of information available, as well as the food point database and journaling system.

    Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight: 133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Please note that if you live in onther coutries (UK, Australia, NZ, Europe), the Points plans are
different. The UK and Australia/NZ calculate points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules.
Most of Europe calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop calculator above can
    handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that most of the people who
participate are respectful, considerate folks who freely share their experience with and knowledge
of WW, weight loss, and maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are
just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience
as a suggestion to try if you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

  4. good for you taking charge of you, I know very little about exercise but I
do know that after you get to your goal, it occurs very often that the fat
you have will shift itself around and this may help your situation, again

Hi there, and welcome! We don't bite - we ain't hungry! 😉

As for the extra abdominal fat, I bet some of it is loose skin, and you just have to wait for that
to catch up with the new thinner you under it! A little will be fat, but if you keep eating sensibly
and working out regularly, it will all shift round eventually. There are no quick fixes, I'm afraid.

Try swimming: best all round exercise in the world, and tones everything to match those six-
    pack muscles!

  7. Welcome to the group. Can't help with the fat part, cause I'm sure I'll have the same problem.
    Congratulations on your loss.

  9. Oh, alright then, welcome nicely. Darn, and I fancied being naaasssssssty
to the new boy instead 😉 *grin* Hi Adrian, and welcome. I wish I could
help. I've shrunk a long way, but my tummy is always with me, regardless,
even at my very lowest weight. Having had 2 kids when I was bigger, well, I
appear to be stuck with it.....so I hope you have more luck than me. It
takes a long time for your body to show the results of a new excercise
regime too - 2 months is just the start, so maybe given some more
    time?...... good luck anyway 🙂

  10. Welcome Adrian! I wish I had some good advice as to how to rid the body of that abdominal stuff, but
I'm still fighting the same thing myself. Skin will take some time to shrink, sometimes 6mos to a
year after you have reached your permanent goal. Stick with aerobic exercise to help burn that
excess fat, would think that will help. Maybe finding an exercise you like will help, that doesn't
really seem like exercise? Even walking is better than nothing. Set aside 30 minutes a day, get out
(or to an indoor track) and get going for a brisk walk. It revs the metabolism, which will help to
burn the excess fat. Others love swimming, another great aerobic exercise. And give it some time.
I've been fighting it for about 8 months now, have a feeling that what I have left is what I will
always be dealing with. Many years of carrying close to 100 extra pounds (15 years) as well as 2
children sure haven't helped either. At least you don't have to fight the childbirth factor. <G>

Abs are all about bodyfat% unfortunately. The fat around the midsection is usually the first to come
and the last to go. You need to get into single figure bodyfat% (typically 8%) before the abs will
show. The bad news is that there is no other way. Keep doing the workouts to retain muscle and keep
doing the diet and cardio to drop fat. You'll get there in the end so long as age is on your side.

  12. I have heard that there is no way to spot reduce, say, only the stomach area. While the muscles will
tighten under the "fat" only by losing the overall fat in all areas, will the stomach also lose its
share overtime. Others have addressed the loose skin and it may tighten, also over time.
