  1. I've started losing some weight (yippee) but I'm starting to get some
significant skin hanging down on my belly. I've still got a long way
to go and when I get to a healthy weight, I'm prepared to get a tummy
tuck if necessary. HOWEVER, does anyone have any suggestions about
support garments or styles of clothes that I can wear in the meantime?
I have a hundred pounds to lose, so I'm looking at a year or more
dealing with the lose skin. To top it off, I live in the South, so
I'll be dealing with lose skin and the heat in a few months.

    Thanks,

    Paula

Congratulations on your loss, Paula! 🙂

I have the same issues, I've lost 69# and have about 100# to go, but my
tummy is already hanging nearly 1/4 of the way down my thighs.

I wear elastic-type underwear, fairly tight, and the kinds of tight stretchy
pants that were popular a couple of decades ago...with big and long
shirts/sweaters over them. Support is the key word. Even so, it is evident
that my body is a strange shape as it is all (chest, arms, belly, thighs,
hips) sagging downward 🙁. I've read that my post-menopausal (complete
hysterectomy several years ago) skin isn't likely to shrink down much after
    losing a person-and-a-half worth of weight, but I'm ever-hopeful - lol.

I also find that using a blow dryer under the flap after my showers,
followed by a starch-free zinc oxide powder keeps rashes at bay. Of course,
rashes aren't as much of a problem at this time of year (in Michigan), but
certainly in the summer they can be.

    Hope this helps! 🙂

  3. The word you're looking for is "girdle".

I have the same problem from losing 80 pounds - the loose skin just
flops over like an apron. I started the weight loss about 3 1/2 years
ago and been stable for about a year now and it IS shrinking, just as a
    glacial pace.

Stay hydrated, put lotion on the skin, avoid the sun (like I'd be
willing to bare it in public!) and start saving for the tummy tuck.

  4. Thanks for the advice. Someone on alt.support.diet provided the
    following links that are informative

    http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm

    and INSPIRATIONAL

    http://www.minahobbi.com/ (she claims NO SURGERY)

All things considered, I'll get the tummy tuck, etc. if I must, but
there are other things I'd rather spend $10K on.

  5. Donate skins to patients who burnt by fire.
They get free skins and you get your skins removed for free.

  6. Paula, I have gone from 410lbs to 186 in exactly 12 months after WLS. I
have lots of leftover skin and it all dropped southward. I can hoist it
up and in into a fairly decent looking clump using those medium strengh
panty girdle underwear sold by Fashion Bug. I paid $12 for a twin pack
and found them deeper than the ones Walmart sells, thus holding more
without the waistband ending up under your belly button.

I'm having a lower body lift the end of this year. I have 20 to 25
pounds of excss skin and lymphedema ( had an ovary removed 5 years ago,
when they were in there they disrupted my lymph nodes and causes my
lymph nodes to not drain well thus making water weight in the lower
    belly)

  7. Oh I forgot to mention drying agents. The makers of Monostat make a
wonderful "Soothing Care Medicated Powder" it is in a blue and pink
container. You can find it in Walmart were the feminine hygeine
products ( ya know cleansers douches etc)and condoms are sold not with
the Kotex and tampons..... I bought it before we went to Mexico for
under my belly and worked TERRIFIC!!!! Dry as a dog bone!!

tummy tuck, thigh lift, butt lift and lipo though.

    Why a starch-free powder?

I mix 2 cups corn starch, 2 TB baking soda, and 5-6 drops of lavendar
oil in a bowl, let it sit overnight, and then sift and store in a
shaker bottle. I use this stuff as a general-purpose body powder and
it costs almost nothing and smells ncier than any of the store stuff.

Just wondering what the benefits of low-carbing the *outside* of one's
    body is. 😉

Because I have a tendency toward yeast 🙁. (Yeast loves to "feed on"
    starch!)

  11. Actually, I found this, which seems to cover all the bases about costs.

    http://www.smarttummytucks.com/costs.html

There are a LOT of before and after pictures too. Some of them are
amazing, but some of them really don't look all that different.

  12. I didn't definately know that the scars would be permanent! I don't do
    it!

  14. Balmex ointment, a thin film under the tummy overhang and the [censored], keeps
rashes away. I also use it under my arms in lieu of deodorant which makes
me itch and it works very well. I think starch may cause problems as it
    provides food for fungi.

  15. Frankly, I dont really car how much is costs. I want the stuff gone. To
me one small thin continuous scar around my lower part of body that
will be hidden by bikini underwear is a small price to pay for getting
rid of the excess junk in my trunk.

Its an 8 hour surgery for a LBL, 3 to 4 days in the hospital, drains
for a few weeks, slow going with incredible tightness and moderate pain
for a few weeks; but in the end its worth it. My sister in law said she
felt like it wasnt her skin when she awoke, felt down there and the big
lumps of skin were gone and replaced with a tight flat belly and she
realized "oh it is me, I can live with this". Email me privately and I
will share some pics of my sister in law who just had hers by the same
surgeon who is doing mine. You wont believe it!!!!! It only gets better
as the swelling goes down also. With me the immediate results will far
surpass any of my expectations I am sure. Im so excited! I drive Larry
    talking about it.

  16. Well, I didn't notice where any of the pics said when they were taken.
For most people, the scars will fade with time. I'm not a person that
scars much anyway, so that's not my main worry. Besides, they took the
pictures so that you COULD see the scars. For all we know, they're
just a few weeks post-op. Obviously, most people will wear a bathing
    suit that hides them.

  17. I don't get it.
If you care less money, why spend effort on diet?
Why not ask them to remove fat and skins all together in once?

Fat is metabolically active. It's quite a shock to the body to excise
fat & skin in large quantities.

Besides the health risk, it turns out that it's not so much how much fat
you have, as how full your fat cells are that determine your well-being.
That means that you have to empty out fat cells through calorie
deficits to get the benefits of losing weight. Cutting them out won't
    do it.

Actually, with enough money, cutting them out will do it.
The whole point is he/she has unlimited money to burn.
Like 20 star class doctors and hundreds of nurses taking care of him or her
only at UCLA or Harvard medical center, everything is possible.
