ABSOLUTELY last time

Did you try posting this over in ASD? And or at comp.sys.mac or alt.sys.mac.newuser-help? I know
this is going to make you insane, but are you sure you've got the sequence right, plug in cable,
turn on meter (says "PC"😉 and then fire up software.

btw: I'm the alpha-geek in a prepress environment, 14 Macs (8.6, 9.2, & Jag & Panther), 9 PCs (98,
NT, W2k, XP) and 3 linux servers (Mandrake). I feel your pain buddy. Hope it works out for ya.

I have used it on a iBook, twice, while my Sager was in the shop. Seemed to work fine. Used the
Belkin serial/USB adapter. Virtual PC, OS 9.

Great! I found that it (Virtual PC) reads my adapter and access it on OS 9 (But not on OS X). I'm
using a Belkin USB PDA Adapter Model F5U409-CU to adapt the 9 pin plug from the Lifescan cable. Do
you recall the model Belkin that you were using? If it was different that could be the problem. If
it was the same did you have "Modem" checked on or off in VPC? Did you use "Advanced settings"? Did
you modify the COM port settings? I.e. make the Belkin COM port 1? Thanks for your reply! Also, I'm
using VPC v. 6.1

Boy I'm gonna look like an idiot. I just plugged it in (the Ultra) and it worked. I never really did
anything. I never occurred to me to look at any settings because after all, it was a Mac. I'll let
you know which version of VPC it was.

When you start a virtual machine on a Macintosh computer that has a USB serial adapter in place, you
receive the following error message:

"The PC name couldn't use the Mac serial port associated with COM #. The port is likely in use by
another PC or another application."

In Mac OS X, you must configure the USB-based serial port in Virtual PC settings, and then restart
the computer. If you view the settings again after you restart the computer, Virtual PC
incorrectly indicates that the port is in use. This problem was corrected in Virtual PC version
5.0.2 for Mac OS X.

And the VPC I was using was 3.0

I'm using Virtual PC 6.1 In OS 9 I can see that there is activity on my Belkin adapter as well as
seeing the Belkin adapter on a COM Port on my device controls. On OS X I do not see any activity on
the Belkin (i.e. flickering lights) nor do I see the Belkin listed as a COM port.

What model Belkin are you using? If there is no # on your Belkin look in "About this Mac" and see
what model # is listed. I may need to try a different adapter. Thanks for your time.

8)) You're lucky I have a good memory. It went bye-bye last Xmas when I bought a desktop PC for my
MIL to replace her Bondi iMac. I donated a lot of old Mac stuff that was just clutter. If you're
into computers you sure can generate a lot of those damned books! A 500-page manual on Netscape 4,
now really! I can't believe I really bought that.

I assume that the Lifescan cable would be this: a DB9 female port

I can get that adapter for $55 but first I'm going to post this possible solution on another
newsgroup before I spend more $$ on this.

Meanwhile, anyone want a Belkin USB PDA Adapter Model F5U409-CU to trade for an F5U-103?

Eureka! To make a loooong story short! I finally succeeded in getting the OneTouch Ultra PC software
to work on a Mac with Virtual PC.

Windows NT will not work. The windows OS must support USB. I’m using Windows XP Professional. OS X
does not work (at least for me). I installed Virtual PC Windows XP on Mac OS 9 (running on the OS
9.2 not Classic environment). The only adapter that works (at least for me) is the Belkin FSU103.
