So, I got the brushes and cleaning tabs from CamelBak so that I could clean the green from the inside of the bladder (the CamelBak's, not mine, Sorni.)
Brushes worked really well, especially the delivery tube brush.
The cleaning tabs are kinda spendy, and I think a very light bleach solution would work just as well. Use a little baking soda solution as an intermediate rinse, then tap water - no bleachy aftertaste.
Lubed the closure O-ring with a little (very little) olive oil.
I have to devise a drying rack for the thing - maybe out of a plastic hanger, bent properly using a heat source, in three dimensions to hold the bladder walls apart... -- Jonesy

Try Two large zip ties connected in just at the end, held together with a small zip tie so they are at 90 degrees to one another MArtin

I just use denture cleaning tablets. Works well and any detectable taste is fresh n' minty!

I just use a coated metal hanger bent just so. Things dry so quickly here that the lack of humidity cobined with the coating on the metal seems enough to prevent rust.

I heard they clean as good as a bleach/water mixture but don't leave that nasty bleach taste.

Sounds like a great idea. Now, I need to find some without the mint flavor. Maybe lemony? Orange? While bleach is pretty yucky, mint is right up there too. Unless it's a frosty Southern drink.

Hasen't happened with my current bladder, which resides in the freezer when not in use, and has had for the past two years. But I never use tap water in it either.

Only if it smells or tastes funny. Or if somebody else drinks from it. I only use filtered water in mine and it never gets gross. I dump, scrub and dry it maybe twice a year. Unless my nine year-old, the human petrie dish, drinks from it. He's got a tendency to backwash, so if I wind up sharing water with him, the camelbak gets a scrubbing afterward. The mouthpiece does have a faint taste of cloves, though. *Once*, about two years ago I drank from it while sucking on a clove and that taste/odor is still there, albeit faintly. Doesn't wash off with soap, water or alcohol, either. I guess if it'd been garlic, I'd have had to replace it. That plastic gets a fearsome grip on aromatic oils.

Hasn't been my experience with Crystal Springs. I've got a 5 gallon water cooler at home, with 3 bottles delivered a week. Also, I should re-qualify that. I do use tap on occasion, but after it's ran through a Pur water filter system (those damn filters get pretty pricey!)
