Advice on Ebay bike

Looks iffy to me - I reckon the guy's had his account nicked ('ware
phishers). Note especially the way the listing is a catalogue dump rather
than a specific bike.
Also, it's only a one day listing - no genuine seller would do that for such
a bike.

Looks mightily suspicious to me - I'm always more dubious when they use
stock manufacturer photos, especially when someone who doesn't appear to
be a bike dealer somehow has 5 very expensive bikes to sell all at once.

Yes, I thought the £5 postage was a little low for a bike too 🙂
It did cross my mind that it could be a "top of a team-car" bike liberated
by a mechanic after one of the tours.
Oh well, guess I'll have to spend £3500 on one
instead....................well, maybe one day.

Well, I see it's been deleted, so it was a scammer. As a matter of
interest, what was it? I keep an eye out for high end Cannondale
mountain bikes on eBay, and about 80-90% of them are clearly scammers. I
think it's being a well-known premium brand that attracts them.

With eBay, caveat emptor - if you have /any/ doubts, don't buy. If you're
really interested in a bike and you don't know whether it's a scam or
not, pretend you're local and ask if you could drop round and have a
look at it. If the vendor makes excuses, don't buy.

I've had my best cycling bargains off eBay, and I will continue to use it
- but it is at present a thieves and fraudsters paradise. In addition to
the outright scams I'm convinced that a fair proportion of second hand
bike bits offered are from stolen high-value bikes which are easier to
sell (less recognisable) broken for parts. Even if you wouldn't have a
moral objection to buying stolen goods, encouraging a market in stolen
goods makes it more likely /your/ bike will be stolen.

Buy only from vendors who have some background you can check, and be wary
of good second hand parts.

Four or five high-end Treks- £500 each starting bid, 24 hour auction. Saw a
couple of 5.9s listed and a Madone.

Seller has emailed me- "You can have them for 1000 Euros each as I need the
money..........yes, they do only cost £5 to ship"

Maybe he's selling 1/32 replicas, or the bid is for a photo of the bike ??
