depend if you want road or MTB.

SDP is the cheapest on MTB, and as long as the shoe stays in would be ok for Road.
Look or cheap equivilients would be best for road as they are stronger and have a better tension adjustment.

I've recently looked at pedals because I want to move from mtb shoes and SPD pedals on my road/race
bike to proper road shoes. All the guys I asked that use look said to go for Shimano's new pedal
system. SPD-SL I think. I started a thread about it a while ago. It seems Shimano might have got one
over Look this time. Look is still very highly rated though.

For MTB, Crank Brothers "eggbeaters" are hailed as the ultimate pedal... I use SPD simply because
they are so cheap. Time ATAC seem popular too.

Just moved to SPDSL Ultegra recently. Really disappointed with Look, pulled the cleat under sprint
in crit, lucky escape from injury. Cleats were 3 weeks old pedals 18 months and near full tension
at the time.

I have tried to pull the SPDSLs on half tension and no can do. Looks are OK for riding but I don't
trust them for racing.

The opinions I received from ng's and in shops was that Looks are fine but there is no reason to use
them with SPD-SL's available. Yours seems to be an unfortunate incident. Most other cleat-pull
stories involved stupidly old cleats being used.

My well-used, well-worn SPD's are making a clicking noise at the moment when put under reasonable
pressure..

wellgo and VP make SPD clone pedals which work fine if you are not going to totally cane them. I am a shimano 535 disciple. Best pedal every made in my opinion. I had some time ATACs and broke at least one arm on each side of the 2 pairs of pedals i owned. Functionally they are better than shimano i feel but just not durable enough.

You cannot go wrong with shimano.

You cannot go wrong with shimano.

The other big factor is the weight. Looks weigh too much for their price. You can easily pick up a
cheaper lighter Shimano pedal that wont break free under the pressure of racing.
