As I couldn't get to the shops this morning, my otherhalf was under
instructions to be at Aldi in Trafford Bar (not posh bit of South
Manchester) first thing . He got one cycling top (red [1]) and 2
pairs of shorts for me, cycling jacket, shorts and shades for himself,
and cycle computer for our 5 yr old (who pronounced it 'awesome!'😉.
Our family peloton will be a sight for sore eyes.

I managed to get into the local Aldi for about 4:30. Didn't look like it
had been picked over that much*.

I picked up the frame bag (2.99), the toolkit with bag (2.99) and the
hard-wired cycle computer (3.99).

The repair kit contains quite a lot of stuff but I haven't had much a play
with it to determine how tough the metal parts are. Earlier in the year I
managed to snap the 'box' head off a pound shop multi spanner. Glad I
wasn't in the middle of nowhere when that happened! In all fairness, some
outdoor shops would probably charge 2.99 for the neat little seat post bag.

I had a quick go around the block the cycle computer and it looks like it
will do the job and provide a good introduction to cycle computers. That
said, I don't yet know what features I would want that are not included on
this cheap one. It's my first cycle computer and I can't wait to go for a
ride with it tomorrow!

So far, I've had to do long distance day trips (long distance to me, my
record is 45 miles so far!) with a day sack but I am hoping that I can
manage without it now.

Now I just need Lidl/Aldi/Netto to come up with some super-cheap rear
pannier bags (I have a rack).

*This might be due to something I noticed the other day (from my site, see
sig) -

I see this as good news. The problem with Ebay mass-reselling is that in
each case, one person benefits rather than lots of people benefiting from

Interestingly I noticed that the Rushley Green Aldi seemed to have run out
of shirts in the morning, though I managed to find one in my size. Went
back in the evening, and they had put a whole lot more out so I got three
more. 😄

I got a red one too. OTOH, Helen did this design for the Fat Birds On a
Bike Club of a turkey riding a bike doing a thumbs up. It would go very
nicely on a white T shirt for doing the Manchester 100.

The South Mancs Sunday Pootlers seems to be a bit defunct this week, they've
all deserted me. I shall have to go out on my own, or be brave enough to
try the South Manchester CTC, but unfortunately their website isn't
responding to find out where they are going this week.

Could do, my bike though is a third hand jobbie off my brother. New to
this, dunno if I could keep up! It does the job though. I'm in the
chorlton area, often seen cycling around the water park / on the mersey
bank. Like everyone else there though I guess

We don't care what bike you're riding - if the wheels go round when you
pedal that'll do. As to keeping up, that gave me a good laugh. Audrey and
I are always at the back end of group rides, so we collect other back enders
to go on rides with at a nice gentle pace. We promise we won't leave you
behind. If you want to be put on the email list for rides, send me an
email, then you can come along and try us out. Next ride is probably
Saturday 20 July, half a day instead of the usual full day.

If you see a short fat grey/brown haired woman with specs cycling around the
water park on a blue Specialised Hard Rock or a blue/silver Malc Cowle, it's
me so say hello.

Finally got into Aldi Fareham this morning, 2 pairs of gloves, tool kit
for eldest and a pump didn't need any of the few jackets and lots of
computers left.
