I've had Alex wheels (320's) with little luck. Used them as my training wheels and would break spokes for no reason (I weight 150 lbs and I am easy on wheels). After having the rear wheel re-spoked, trued and properly tensioned, the rear hub shell broke (where the spokes meet the flange). I still have the front wheel, but I will only use it indoors on the trainer. I recently broke a spoke on the front wheel riding on rollers.... The spoke broke for no reason or warning. These were low count spoke wheels (16 f/ 20r). I've had much better luck with Mavic wheels. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Mine are 298's or sumthin...there's a nine there somewhere 😕 anyhow had them for about 3000kms (1800 miles) and they seem to run nice, my Mavics had rooted bearings (re-greasing every 2-3 months) so any wheel would have been an improvement...they seem nice and fast anyways

I've been quite happy with the Alex 270s that came on my Felt. They're not particularly light or blingy, and I had to touch them up with the spoke wrench just once, but I've found them to be a dependable everyday sort of wheel.

Is the "Spanish" brand your friend is looking at Vuelta, by any chance?

Two things.... not sure why I called them Alex wheels, they are actually A Class, when I googled with "alex" it went to "A-Class" just like the rim decal :o anyways my mate got his Spanish hoops 6 mths ago, if the pussie rides tomorrow to work I will have a Captain Cook (look) to check the brand...

I have a pair of Alex wheels that came with a Raleigh that I bought in 2003. I don't remember model they are and they are buried too deep in my storage locker to dig for right now. They were OK but I wasn't really impressed by them. If I dug them out, I would probably just use them as trainers.
