I don't know if this is the correct news forum to post about what I am going
to write...
But just about 5:40 pm today I was riding along canada then along skyline
towards the crystal
spring dam. And just as I am nearing the hill top where bunker hill drive I
catch up to a rider on a green bianchi bicycle. We crest the top together
and he leads down the hill towrds the dam. And we are going about 30Mph and
we are going past a highway exit where cars are stopped ahead and appear to
be waiting for us to pass. Then comes a man driving a camery and runs the
stop sign and just as we are racing past on the downhill. I saw this coming
and was breaking, however the rider in front tried to go around the car and
beat him through the intersection. The car was running the stop and turning
right so he was traveling in the direction as we were. Rider in front starts
screaming you freakin' idiot - you freakin' idiot - you freaking idiot as
loud as he can and then the driver of the car slams on his breaks and is
swerving all over the road and comes to a stop. I was thinking he almost
killed me by stoping. But I continued onward while it could have turned out
to be a nasty fight behind me.
If anyone reads this I hope it goes to warn you that as bicycle riders we
are hard to see. My guess is that the driver didn't see us, or possibly
misjudged our speed as we traveled closer. And not to mention that this
time of the day the daylight makes it hard to be seen this time of year. So
if your riding in the later time of day keep your guard up. Try using your
defensive driving skills. People are tired and driving home from work in
their cars.
