  1. I've read MFW off and on over the years.

It used to be a place where many fitness experts posted as well as
experts of other ilk. I didn't agree with everyone, but you could
learn a lot and the humor, even though raw, was fantastic.

It looks like most of those people have left leaving MFW to be a haven
    for bickering arrested adolescents.

I was wondering if there is anyplace like the old MFW?

I found a message board that Lyle McDonald set up. I signed up, but
haven't really read it yet so I don't know if it is any good:
    http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/forums/

Can anyone recommend any other alternatives that would be similar to
    the old MFW?

    Personally I've tried a number of Web-based forums - I don't like them.
Usenet is still by far the most elegant internet format for the exchange
    of ideas and conversation.

Instead of bailing out may I suggest inviting people in? There is quite
a lot of good possibilities in this group yet. Personally I would love
to see numerous people back on this forum.

Another way of resurrecting MFW is to post on-topic with ideas which get
on-topic conversation going. There are still a lot of knowledgable
people in this forum - they are simply lost in the trolling right now. I
don't care for killfiles, but it is easy for me to choose who I read and
    who I don't.

  3. I would agree that this is still a good group despite the trolls and
off-topic garbage that gets posted. We should just ignore the stupid
stuff and keep posting good stuff. I have personally learned some good
things from this group and Keith in particular.

    Thank you,
    James

    Far too sensible Keith! ;o)

To be honest, John Williams is also capable of providing sound in
depth advice on a range of topics, if only he would stop trolling and
encouraging others to do the same.

    How about it Williams?

Steve may be just expressing his bitterness. A few days ago, he shows
up for a rare appearance and suggests that Lee Michaels, David Cohen
and I should be killfiled by anyone who wants decent information.
    Sounds kinda personal, doncha think?

If Steve or anyone else wants to talk on-topic, I have yet to see a
single comment on my "SemiSlow" thread. The study was epublished ahead
of publication less than two weeks ago. I don't think you'll find it
being discussed anywhere else, unless somebody exports it from here.

I read it, but my only comment was the thought that it might be worth a
try the next time I'm planning on changing my routine. I like to have a
big bag of tricks to try.

Yeah, I saw some of that thread. But I still think (as I know you do)
that Usenet is the best internet medium for discussion and instead of
thinking there is a better alternative it would be more appropriate
    simply to restore MFW.

That's by far the best option and it would only need a genuine change
of attitude by a few people, with the requirement to be inclusive and
co-operative rather than exclusive and aggressive, to succeed in the
    restoration.

It would only require three or four of the leading players to stop
being so hostile; cut out all the sniping, trolling, alleged
killfiling, ignoring and stalking, and the Group would be absolutely
    fine.

But that's a tall order after such a long time and it's not very
    likely - is it?

I agree. And as to your earlier comments about killfiles, not everyone
needs them, but some do. Note that I am posting through Google Groups,
so I can obviously still read the trolls, even if I have them killfiled
in my regular newsreader. I really don't care what they say, but it's
getting to the point that I'm simply tired of having to wade through a
bunch of messages that are much less "trolling" than they are petty
harassment and childish quips. If I can show people how to quickly
reduce the number of worthless posts with a few simple keystrokes, I
    think it's a benefit.

Also note that I have added to the troll list the neo-Nazi white
supremacist who has been getting a lot of action on his cross-posts.
With the proper settings of Agent or Outlook Express, combined with
NewsProxy/Nfilter, it may be possible to dump all his bigoted rants
*and* the follow ups. I'll post it when I figure it out.

FWIW, I get weekly emails for my PubCrawler searches, and I'm still
willing to research the journal articles that interest me and post my
observations, just like I did in the "SemiSlow" thread. I have no
intention of posting observations on subjects that are only
tangentially related to weight training just to show how smart I am (as
is done in some forums), but if I see something that is genuinely
worthwhile, I'm willing to spend the time wading through the findings,
including researching some of the background findings, and reduce it
all to a form that most folks in MFW can understand. If a few people
can benefit from it, that's enough for me.

That's very laudable as long as you are scrupulously fair, and don't
allow your personal animosity to cloud your judgment, and blacken some
people just because *you* don't like them.

Lee and David are a waste of time. You offer good
health and fitness info, but your radical right wing
extremist political [censored] is so far from reality that
it borderlines on insanity. You should stick with what

I read it, and was glad to see it, because I do my

slow, deep breathing. So that article confirmed that
I'm doing the right thing. Thanks Johnny!

I am NOT going to renounce my citizenship and become a Canadian!!

There is there the French influence which would even defy even the
    sages of MFW!!
