    """
Six months after losing his World Boxing Association title to James
Toney and then having the title returned to him 10 days later after
Toney tested positive for a steroid, John Ruiz has filed a $10 million
    lawsuit against Toney

In the suit, Ruiz alleges that Toney's use of Nandrolone caused Ruiz to
suffer a loss he would not otherwise have incurred, and with that loss,
he ''incurred significant financial damage and damages to his reputation
as a result" of Toney's use of the illegal substance.

    [...]

Ruiz's suit is believed to be the first case of one professional athlete
suing another for using performance-enhancing drugs

    dumbass,

it was only a matter of time. i just figured it would happen in
    baseball first.

"The only thing that can solve this problem is money. If players start
suing other players because they feel defrauded out of records or
other sporting achievments and income then maybe things will get

Or it ratchets up the witch hunt. Athletes are called guilty using
questionable tests and disputed procedures, then are sued by other
competitors because of it? What happens to the credibility of USADA or
WADA when an independent court finds their positive verdict to have
    been questionable at best?
This is another facet of why I have been [censored] that the testers
need to have their [censored] together first. Now if we get Jan suing Lance
how ugly do you think that gets in a court?

That would be amusing. A product of east Germany's athlete mill, the
home of "better sports through chemistry" suing anyone on this issue.
Ah! the irony of it all.

or someone who doesn't test positive is sued because they are suspected
    of doping.

It would but Wada has nothing saying Jan has done anything but the one
ecstasy offense and he could go to court as the "clean" athlete no
matter the other lawsuits against the former programs.
All we need is for one really wealthy rider to sue another really
wealthy rider and it's game on.
I wonder what power the courts have to coerce the information from
everybody involved including the CAS, Wada, Usada, and the UCI
depending on where the case is filed. If this case is successful, as I
expect it to be as he can show definite damage and intent by the other
party, there are going to be a lot more of these.
Great for the press, lots of stuff to write about.

Now you are thinking with a US mentality. When in doubt SUE! I just
saw an for a personal injury ambulance chasing firm done by William
    Shatner.
    Laughed my ass off.

Jan could also claim, probably accurately, that he did not know what they
were giving him under the EG system and that he's been clean ever since. ;-)

So has cyclist in the US ever tried to sue another cyclist for causing a
    crash ?

Not that I know of yet, just shows we have more sense than the general
population. I have heard vague rumors of races/venues settling with
    riders who crashed though.

Cyclists file lawsuits all the time. If there is an injury that leaves
a disability it's almost a requirement. No one gets left out when that
happens. You need to cast the net as wide as possible.

Think about it. If something happens that leaves you unable to do your
job, what do you do? What does your family do?

Know of a case that everyone but the other cyclists were sued - and
the guy suing in the opinion of everyone else caused the crash (into
the back of a VW sedan).

I have never tested negative on a drug test.
