  1. I'm heading to Anaheim soon (convention center area) and wondered if
anyone knows of good places to eat that aren't the standard usual chain
places? It will be by taxi, bus or foot, so I need to stay somewhat near
    the convention center.
    Thanks

I think your best bet is to check out the Los Angeles chowhound forum,
which is very active. Ask your question on that board.

Nope, not this year. I know a lot of traveler that will be going
though. My recruiter will be going and having a booth, I think. Stop
by and tell her you know me from a food newsgroup..she knows I love
food. I will give you the name of the company, if you want. I am
currently on assignment with them in NM.

Maybe another year I will get to one. I have heard they are a lot of
    fun.

But check out Chowhound for places to eat...there are a lot of Orange
County folks that post on that board.

I hope things have changed since my visit to Anaheim years ago, but you
should be prepared for disappointment. The convention center is just
outside Disneyland. I was staying at a hotel at the opposite end of
Disneyland and found the walking to be damn near impossible. And the
food near the convention center was either hotel food or chain schlock.
As context, this was the weekend Richard Nixon died, and Southern
California had snow (as in Hell freezes over). I swore that it would
have to be another Hell freezes over moment before I'd go to another
    meeting in Anaheim.

There is tons of great Vietnamese food in that area.
Nearby Westminster is called "Little Saigon". I can't
remember the name of the great place I went to last time
I was there - it was several years ago. If you know anyone
in the area they may be able to advise you. If you know
any Vietnamese people in the area, that would be the best.
Unfortunately I live in PA now and don't get out there very
    often. :-(

Thanks, gives me something to look forward to. I still am disappointed
to be having a great adult conference in.... Anaheim? I can think of
soooo many cities adults would _rather_ meet.

Hmmm...lemme see...the Convention Center is on Katellal (runs east/west)
just west of Beach Blvd (Hwy 39 -- runs north/south). Go to the Orange
County Register site & check their restaurant reviews you should be able to
find some places nearby. Taxi ride is imperative as the distances can be
several miles away. Look for Westminister and/or Garden Grove sites. If
you belong to a AAA club get maps of the area so you can check mileage. Bus
service can be very spotty. You might want to think about renting a car.

    Harriet & critters.
