In my rash and callow, er, middle age, I gave blood one morning and
cycled back over a Big Hill the same evening. I was absolutely out of
breath. Then, reading up, I found out that whilst the blood /volume/
replenishment only takes a few hours, the blood
/oxygen-carrying-capacity/ takes much longer. Ah well, you live and
learn and pant. :-)

It's fun to own and use nice stuff. Not as fast as a heavily laden
roadster, of course, but you can't have everything.
