Hello everyone. Does anyone have a headlight recommendation for someone looking to ride in the early morning a bit before sunrise? Typical rides are main roads, but not always lighted. Typical speeds are between 15 and 30 mph. Of course, I am hoping to not spend too much money...
I have two of the Bell Dusk to Dawn and am very pleased with them, under $10 each and you could get by with one. I was riding at 3am because of the heat and needed full lighting to see on the trails. Riding everyday, the batteries lasted several weeks.. 3 AAAs.
Thanks for the recommendations! It seems like starting a ride or ending a ride in the dark will soon be the only way to get a solid ride in during a busy day now that fall is right around the corner.
I can't speak highly enough. You can find them for around $120, and it includes a swappable LiIon battery. I typically train at midnight (no traffic, cool) and it's totally adequate. Plus USB charging is nice; you can charge it at work or a friend's place without worrying about a separate adapter.
A good bike light could save your life.. 😉 It's not just about being seen, it's about seeing the road in front of you. When you're moving along at a good clip, you really want to see that hole in the road..
It comes with a plug in rechargable battery and has the ability to also hook up regular AA batteries for extra capacity (or you could use it with the AA alone). There's three light modes - with low being brighter than a standard bike light and high being bright enough to burn retinas out at 2000 yards (or bright enough to descend remote mountain passes at speed in the dark). An awesome small light.
List was $199 but they were on sale earlier this year for $89. I've seen it even cheaper than than since then.
I purchased the BlackBurn flea front and rear from my LBS about a month ago. I LOVE them. Super small, super bright, and super cool. They are perfect for starting out pre-dawn. They were $50 for front and rear and recharge via USB.
Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I decided to go with the CygoLite Expilion 250 USB LED Light. I'll be sure to post what I think of it.
For the record, Oldgoat, I did search the forum and the internet for that matter, but I thought it would be good to post in the road specific category.
