Yes, we are insane. Insanely happy with our purchases and the enjoyment they
give us. Our recumbents are mostly all hand made and therefore worth the
cost. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I wouldn't pay over $50,000 for a motor vehicle, but some do, but that
doesn't mean they are not worth it.

It's called the law of supply and demand. It doesn't matter if you

Try to think about the resale value.If you take care of your investment you may very well sell it for the same price you payed for it a year later.Now that you are getting a bike for free,how can you refuse to get in shape and have fun at the same time ? Sounds like a good deal to me.

I spent in excess of $2K for a used trike from an eBay auction, then
drove almost 1,000 miles in one day to pick it up. 😉

I also purchased a used recumbent bicycle for a little less than $2K.

Recumbents are easily affordable if one does not spend money on foolish
things.

It's normal for recumbents to be more costly. However, I've seen, for
example, a Cycle Genius CGX on sale for less than $400, so perhaps one
might get lucky and snipe one on eBay for around $300, but I really doubt
it'd be *under $300. You might find a Sun EZ-1 in the $300-$400
neighborhood too. Old BikeE CT's go for about $400 as well. CLWB isn't my
cup of tea, so you won't have to bid against me.

That said, I own the cheapest SWB available, at $500 + $63 in freight
charges.

I think Chuck sold my address, though. Ever since i ordered it I'm
getting, of all things, a deluge of gun catalogs, letters from the NRA,
etc. I've never owned a firearm or even purchased ammunition or for that
matter so much as a fishing pole, so I'm perplexed. My best guess is that
maybe a "bicycle" somehow counts as "sporting goods".

Some time next year i hope to begin construction on a homebuilt tadpole,
which i hope will cost significantly less (if i don't include my usual
hourly rate).

I knew a chap who refused to spend any money on his wife and she left him,
then he refused to spend more than $800.00 on a good used car, could not
find one and lost his job because he could not get to work. Then with a
reduced income declared he needed to find a new apt. for under $400.00 per
month, could not find one and moved back with his parents. Then at his
parents urging he went to buy a cheap DF bike and could not find a "Quality"
bike for less than $200.00, so he did not buy one. His parents then had him
moved to a psychiatric hospital.

Moral is...get yer priorities straight, all the time you spend hunting is
time lost riding and sitting around waiting for that under $300.00 bent to
appear might land you in the looney bin.

IF being a cheap [censored] is preventing you from getting a bent and getting
in some quality riding, might be time to change your priorities.

You're either just trying to agitate this group or you're pretty naive. Why
would a person sell a $2,000 to $7,000 bike (recumbent or not) for $300 if
it was in reasonable condition. Who's insane here?

think they were all great buys.

A wise shopper like yourself might try the Marts, (like Wal or K) because
they sell new bikes in your price range.

I think that everyone is missing the point. It sounds like the
original poster just does not know his bicycles (recumbent or
otherwise.) "All bikes are the same, right? I had a great one from
Sears when I was little. Why pay more than a few hundred?"😉 The car
analogy is good. Some bikes are Chevy Sprints, and some are BMW's.
They each have 4 wheels and an engine, and they'll get you there, but
they are not the same.

If the poster is serious at looking at getting bent, it sounds like he
needs to do a lot of reading or research to get up to speed!
