With all the rain down here, ya' have to do a bit more planning, trying to keep an eye on the

Even in year-round rideable San Diego, not only have we had a lot of rain lately (for us), we also
lost almost all our local trails to the fires late last year. (And it's only getting worse with the
rains, since there's no foliage on the hillsides to keep dirt/ash from washing down over what was
once hard-pack.)

Spring IS coming, though, so eventually all will be well again (except for fire-affected trails;
gonna take a long while for them)...

Cross training is good. Winter is good. Let me count the ways: there's downhill skiing for speed,
tele for coordination, snowboarding for thrills, x-c skiing for aerobic fitness, speed skating for
quad strength. Etc. All fun. All challenging.

If God wanted you to ride your bike 365, he would have moved you to SoCal. --dt

I have to say I miss riding, but skiing fresh powder all the time seems to cheer me up! Tele skiing
is good for coordination AND it kills my quads. I could barely walk after I played hooky on Friday
and skied powder instead of working.

As for me, I don't think I've been grumpy. Nutty, maybe, but not grumpy.

New stuff is arriving at the lbs's. I got a box of Black Cherry Almond Clif Bars (Not available here
in Canada yet). I'm planning for a 12 hr endurance ride later this summer. And I've volunteered to
help out at an all day "beach to beach" ride in the summer.

Life's good.

Though this time of year isn't really conducive to riding around here anyway, so I get your point
about your particular situation...

You got all that right. Went for a sanity-restoration run last night. Got chased by a rottweiler,
almost coughed up a lung, my sweat froze. Was great to be out, but can only get better when the
trails dry out or freeze up enough to ride.

basking in 30+ centigrade temperatures three weeks ago and then the bottom fell out of summer. The
rain and storms started, snow fell, hurricane force winds up to 180km/hour, civil defence
emergencies with half the North Island submerged with floods like no-one has seen in over a hundred
and fifty years. The insurance companies are saying there hasn't been a disaster like this since our
Napier earthquake in 1927. It' cold and wet here. I can see snow on the mountains and it feels like
winter. Not late, balmy summer... <sob> .... and....I..... can't.... ride in THIS!! ARGH!
