Since Jan won't actually read the article and will instead call me a
liar or something, the rest of you might enjoy reading the whole
article. It doesn't say that neck-popping will cure ear infections,
but it does favorably address osteopathic manipulation as an adjunct.
This appears to be a reasonably designed, albeit small, study.

Thank-you, the article was very informative and seemed supportive of
manipulative therapy for infants. Which in some circles is still
considered taboo.Most Chiropractic and Osteopathic techniques used to
treat infants and children do not involve "cracking or popping". I'm
getting a copy for my records and to share with colleages and patients

Now that we know that routine ( allopathic) treatment for OM with antibiotics

I'm not a big proponent of unsupported use of antibiotics, and I know
that most ear infections will resolve spontaneously. The reason
mainstream docs use antibiotics for otitis is to prevent the
development of mastoiditis. It's a small but real risk of untreated
otitis media, and it's a real mess once it develops.

The article seems to support osteopathic manipulation as an adjunct to
conventional treatment of ear infections, not an alternative to
conventional treatment.

Mark,
I think you will be seeing more and more of this type of research
coming out in the future on the benefits of OMT and CMT, unfortunately
not many DO's routinely manipulate anymore. I am curious Mark, would
you feel comfortable referring to an Chiro or Osteopath(who routinely
manipulates) who is experienced in treating infants and children for
the benefit of the patient or would you hold back because you would be
worried about your reputation? Of course you would speak to them and
be ok with their practice philosophy.
