History: Male 42 years old. Medicin for elevated cholesterol and high bloodpresure. 5feet 10, 150
pounds, non smoker, run 15 miles a week. Father died when he was 48, of a heartattack. My mother was
45 when she got new bloodwessels in her legs. Later she had had two heartattacks. Both were smokers
but no overweight.
I can see in a lot of the mails in this group that aspirin is part of the medication that the doctor
give heart patients. My family doctor in Denmark has decided to give me cholesterol medicin because
of my family history. My cholesterol is borderline. My bloodprsure was significant too high so there
he had no doubt about midication. I guess that we do not have the same tradition as in USA about
going to a specialist - cardiolog - before you are a heartpationet. The familidoctor has not
suggested it anyway. Now the point. He has never said anything about aspirin. Is it because there
are side effects? Or are there different opinions about aspirin in Europe and USA. Should I just
start eating them? Or is it neccesary to have bloodtest done? I can see in some of the posts in this
group that the aspirin realy prevent fatal heartattacks. So why has the doctor not told me to eat
the cheap little pills?
Best regards and sorry about spelling and grammar. English is not my primary language.
