Barbieri Pumps

I use a Barbieri carbon pump. It takes more than twice as many pump
strokes to reach 100psi compared to a Topeak Morph and the last few dozen
strokes take a lot of effort. On the other hand, the Barbieri pump weighs
less than one-third as much as the Topeak. If you get a lot of flats
or you have wimpy arms, the bulky heavy pump may be worth the hassle.

Lucky you. I just received mine in the mail today. I let all the air out of
one tire and went at it. This pump is light as a pen. The previous post
describes it well. I pumped mine up to 120 psi , but I think the extra
effort is worth the weight savings. I am now becoming a weight watcher and
replacing stuff here and there. Next is a carbon cage. This pump is LIGHT!.
Only you can decide if it's worth it. It is also small enough to carry in
your jersey. I am surprized it can handle 120 for its size. Buy from a place
that will refund your $ if you decide to return. Thats all.

My blackburn FP1 took a dump and I find the new ones don't hold the
valve stem of my Michelin tubes very well.

I've never found them as comfortable to walk in as, say, Manolo
Blahniks . . . but maybe that's just me. <g>

Are you guys able to keep the pump seated to the valve stem? That's
really my problem with the Blackburn pump. When pressure reaches
around 80psi, the head of the pump unseats itself from the valve stem.

Never happens on my floor pump. Is the retainer mechanism on the
Barbieri more secure or is this commong with all frame pumps?

I carry the Barbieri Carbon Mini-Pump for repairing flats on the road. Also
carry a presta valve CO2 inflator and a couple 12-gram threadless cartridges
which are the least expensive CO2 cartridges and are available by the 50pk
box at a low per-cartridge cost.

The Barbieri pump I carry because it is incredibly light and reliable, but I
usually use it only for the first 60 to 80 PSI of tire inflation. After
pumping with the handpump, I top up with the CO2 inflator; this provides the
quickest repair time for an optimal cost and weight penalty while maintaining
self-sufficiency on days when the number of flats exceeds the number of CO2
cartridges I carry... the Barbieri does high pressures, but I prefer the
expediency of cartridges or the floor pump at home for that.

I like the Barbieri because it is reliable and extremely light and is short
enough to fit into the repair kit bag I carry.
