Why do we still insist on perpetuating the myth that parallel battery configurations are inherently safer than series configurations? I mean, think about it - in a parallel setup, a single cell failure can bring down the entire pack, whereas in a series setup, the faulty cell is isolated and the rest of the pack can still function. And yet, were constantly told that parallel is the way to go for reliability and safety.
Whats more, doesnt the increased complexity of parallel wiring and balancing circuits actually increase the risk of electrical faults and fires? Ive seen more than a few high-profile e-bike fires that were caused by dodgy parallel wiring, and yet we still cling to this notion that its the safer option.
And dont even get me started on the whole increased capacity argument. Sure, you can cram more cells into a parallel setup, but at what cost? Youre still limited by the weakest link in the chain, and all youre really doing is increasing the risk of cell mismatch and premature aging.
So, I ask you - are we just drinking the Kool-Aid on this one, or is there some fundamental flaw in my reasoning that Im missing? Can someone please explain to me why parallel is still considered the gold standard for e-bike battery configurations?
