Beanie under a helmet

Try a "buff" which is a microfibre tube which does a reasonable job of
beanie imitation and is thin enough to fit under your normal helmet.

I made a thin beanie out of polarfleece some time back.

Simply a single piece of fleece, cut into a pair of conjoined
semicircles (think birds-eye view of a nice pair of ^H^H^H^H^H ..
bra), then sewn around the curved portion.

Fits my noggin just right, cost next to nothing, is nice and thin so
it doesn't force me to jam on my helmet... keeps my head and tops of
my ears warm.

I got a really thin merino one a few years back from lab-gear and I love
it....mine is all black but they have got new models with a GT stripe down
the middle....

I've used a Netti headwarmer on many a cold & wet Audax ride an can't
recommend it enough.

I use a cotton bandanna with one of those girly headband things for around
the ears. It is both sweat control and heat retaining.

It also is below the helmet line so it works out nicely.

Joseph, I got a pair of them at the two dollar shop near the bus
interchange at Woden Plaza. That was a few years ago and I haven't seen
them since. They are relatively thin, hence fitting under the helmet,
but keep the head and ears perfectly warm on below zero Canberra mornings.

have pom-po hats that if you snip the pom-pom off, are suitable.

Also, economical and come in a range of garish colours to mactch every
bicycle.

Aldi Stores have their winter clothes on sale from today (29th) in which
they have a Fleece Hat ( like a beanie) *With Thinsulate - *soft
microfleece - $3.99 and gloves - $3.99

Six stores down your way so you should be able to find them.

(No longer up on their site - next weeks special buys up now.)

and guess what it cost $4. It looks good and shoould fit under a helmet.

Err, that stuff is created all from petroleum crude stock and it has gone
up over 800% (or is that us petrol prices) the last decade, or something
like that.

Yeah, I second the merino. These days they have superfine merino and
you can wash it like poly but it has much better properties and
doesn't smell. Very thin.
