Beckham's red card appeal

i saw this on the telly

the ref did over react, no doubt. But becks should have known better, he could see thet the ref was all in a state and should have just shut up..

i am all for disciplining dissent, i go to our local teams games at the weekend and the linesmen/refs take a power of verbal abuse from the players, mostly questioning the man's parental intergrity, intellectual capacity and visual faculties.

its awful.

I'm not a big fan of Mr. Beckham, but it looked to me like Ibanez overreacted. (Saw the replay on FSC) Maybe he was hot from the previous yellow card?

Agreed. Most other sports have zero tolerance when it comes to players inlfuencing the ref (eg: rugby - when a player opens his mouth it's 10 yards). Footy should be no difference - ref's decision is final.

Becks should move to south america where it's legal to whip out a 9mm and cap the ref if you don't like what he says 😄 😄

His experience should really show here, he is the captain of england for gods sake. Its time to give up the tantrums.

Too bad 'futbol' doesn't use the instant replay...could clear up some of these spats.

watched the match and while no fan of becks I do feel that the last two sending offs were harsh to say the least ( not to mention 2 penalties that were´nt )
I live in the communidad de valencia so have little time for real so for me to say the ref was duff ...........

How's about sending him off permanently? Preferably to the U.S.

Beckham is playing some of the best stuff of his life for Real Madrid at the moment. The second booking was not on dirty list IMO. Have you seen how much stuff he has to put up with during a game? I've seen a few great footballers in my life, and he's one of them.

Beckham's very fit and wealthy and talented, always has been. Henman has always failed to deliver at Wimbledon, but at one time was ranked 8th in the world. Andrew Murray the young Scot has just knocked out Timmikins, now rated at about 150.
You seem to go for the feminine side of things, therefore you might be a closet poofter.
Young Mister Rooney is the greatest naturally talented player I have seen in the last 50 years since the ill-fated Midlander Duncan Edwards perished in Manchester Uniteds fateful aircrash at Munich. Even Sir Bobby Charlton glazes over when Duncan is mentioned, and shakes his head in a gesture of only he knows what's in his mind.
Rooney has been voted Best Young Player of the Year by his fellow professionals worldwide.
So where does that leave you, you bitter and twisted non achiever?

Fair comment, but I never saw him play in his younger days, I don't think that there is any footage from that time. I've seen some of the alltime greats at Old Trafford. Alfredo di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas, Carmello and the winger Gento, the names of the others escapes me now many years later.
Never mind, I can still feel the tingle of those special nights at Old Trafford.
Don't forget that Rooney is only 19. Jeez. Nothing bothers him. He really is something special.

Yeah, Rooney. I caught just a few minutes of a game the other day (I had to run), but I didn't see him handle the ball much in that short time. I'll need to check him out next time.

I have seen vid of Pele from the early-mid 60's. Several years ago it was, but not great quality as you can imagine and not very long. It was on some sports "Greatest of All Time" thing or another.

Then when he was with the Cosmos it seemed like he was on the tube all the time. I was a young kid then, and I remember how much in awe I was of the guy. Still am!

it doesnt matter how fit he really is, he is fit enough to be playing regularly for one of the greatest clubs in the world. Perhaps that doesnt take super-fitness but it takes a lot of skill and talent as FredC said.

the UK is short of truly international sporting superstars and Becks is one of the few we have. Maybe D.Coulthard would be in there too but is is another Henman, we like to support him but he is never really going to win anything big.

David beckham has become a benchmark for footballing legenderyness. When Nakamura signed for Celtic in the summer he was hailed as 'Japans answer to Beckham'....he is a good player alright but they were referring to his superstar lifestyle, model wife, big house, fast cars and bags of cash.

Becks is good for the UK image.....but personally i think he is a big wet blouse.

Coulthard - egads. I've supported the man for years which is equivalent to slashing your wrists with a spoon - you keep trying hard but you never really get the result you're looking for.....

I recall well the words of Muhammad Ali when he was joking with journalists about the image of the boxer or the sportsman. His words ring true for David Beckham and Rooney. I mean, you begin the conversation with Rooney and ask:
"Hey, champ, what do you think about the latest famine in Zimbabwe?"
And the response goes:
"Duh, duh, well a fink, duh, isn't Zimabawe on the costa del sol?"
So, the reporter tries David Beckham:
"What do you think about recent developments treating cancer?"
