Did the Ben last saturday the hard way. Mate and I went up Tower Ridge. My first mountain rock climb since my accident five years ago. Had a great time, even when we had to force our way through the snow above the Eastern Traverse. Got back down fairly late but as we were staying in the Ben Nevis Inn we at least only had to walk to the first building for a pint or three. Incidentally I can not recommend the Ben Nevis Inn whole heartedly. There was never any hot water for the showers and at eleven pounds a night that is not acceptable. We also had to get the electricity reset as it did not seem to be able to handle mico waves and kettles going at the same time. Obviously it's a case of 'Location, location, location' and they feel that they can charge high rates.

We were supposed to do the arete route but being woken up by rain battering against the hotel window put me off...

Sorry to take so long to reply. Yes SWMBO knows. I think she realised I was pining for my climbing. Over the last couple of months I have gone back to the local climbing walls and quarries, but Tower Ridge was my first mountain route. In a fortnight my MC are heading to Plocton and I hope to do the Cioch Nose. I intend to keep the grades fairly low and not to do any snow and ice stuff. That will keep SWMBO onside.

Yes it was the 21st. We had everything chucked at us; rain, hail, sleet and snow. Sometimes I wondered why we were there. When we summited the weather was excellent, the views were terrific and once we got back down to the pub I knew it had all been worthwhile.

Yes, when we were wandering round Fort WIlliam around 3ish weather had really cleared up and were rather jealous of those on the summit (although substantially drier than some) -- Mike. Some mountain photos, bad html and other stuff at http://www.prog99.com
